Don't think either team will be looking to contain. Both will be approaching the game with confidence.
I think it's the best two teams in the tournament meeting in the final. I'm sure the game will be defined by small margins - the home crowd, the unbelievable feeling surrounding England right now - hopefully play in our favour.
One thing that I think will be important is the way Dani Olmo overloaded the midfield for Spain against Italy, Bonucci and Chiellini didn't want to follow him in. Think Kane will do the same. |  |

We're playing against a back 4 that is vulnerable to pace, they showed that against Belgium. Chiellini and Bonucci are experienced, wily, dogged warriors, but at 35 / 36 they're not young. Di Lorenzo at right back, he's highly susceptible to pace too. If we set up to contain, we're asking for trouble. Italy's unbeaten run wont end until a side sets up to beat them and go after them. With the attacking quality we have and the pace on the flanks we can ask a lot of questions of them. It's a game made for Sake, Sterling, Sancho IMO.
I think the real question is whether we can win the midfield battle to allow those scenarios to unfold, to bring those wide men into the game, get balls in behind their back 4. To do that we need to overrun the middle of the park. For me their trio of Verratti, Barella, Jorginho is as good a midfield as you'll find in international football right now. I wonder if Gareth might throw a surprise in there, perhaps Henderson starting. If we can win in and around the centre circle we win the game. |  |

Being serious for once, I think it's a bit of this and a bit of focussing on our own game. I suspect we'll have more control of the game, yet Italy have (probably) the greater incisiveness from midfield (we look poor through the middle, having all our success down the sides). They've struggled to maintain their high press lately, so I suspect it'll be a tight game and we may have to be patient and grow into it more from the hour mark.
It's going to be a fascinating game. It could be a classic end-to-end if we push hard like we did against Denmark at the start, but I'm not sure we'll want to leave ourselves that open. I think it'll be more entertaining than Spain would have been. There is potential for them to kill the game through gamesmanship though if they go ahead later on.
So hard to call, as both teams have been defensive and slow at times and at other times have played fast attacking football. On a knife edge imo. | |

Indeed I thought Spain were the better team against Italy. However Italy have such quality on the ball and able to thread passes they were a constant threat. If they find their scoring boots it's going to be super interesting.
As others have said whoever wins the midfield battle is likely to win the game. Can Phillips and Rice block the middle and get quick ball up the wings involve Shaw and Sterling? It's going to be fascinating, personally this Irish person is vouching for England to finally bring it home! |  | | |

Never underestimate your opponent, it's a once off game anything can happen. Both teams can win it, I would counter that both teams can lose key players which could turn the tide.
