The question now really is with a couple days of window left 17:07 - Aug 28 with 2722 viewschicoazul

Does Ashton give Cook more time and let him make a couple more signings like a keeper and yet another CM and CB? Does he say no more signings? Or does he take the nuclear option and say to a new guy, work with these until December? Cook has had what, 23 games now to impress or at least show signs of even the basics like training the team to defend set pieces properly. One thing is for sure, if they are sticking with him they need to bring at least one big personality into the team ASAP who can mentally and physically reinforce this latest bunch of dolly drops.

I guess those are questions, not the question.

New keeper & cb for sure.

They've invested too much in Cook & his new squad to boot him out at this stage.

Imho I would be looking to see if we can't put a bid in for a better goalie and letting Holy go. I don't think either of the goalies are better than the other.

The team we have is better than the manager is at the moment, so I wouldn't be heartbroken in Ahston knee jerks a bit. I am not saying "COOK OUT" - but I certainly wont be shedding a tear if he goes at this point.

I think his times up, the continuation from last season and the squad he’s built and results still evade him. Coaching seems devoid and some of the subs are baffling

For me a new keeper 100%.

I think a new CM is more important than a new CB. Someone with a bit of composure to help us see games out and stamp a bit more authority on proceedings. We look a bit weak there sometimes / regularly.

Did I say we need a new keeper? Hladky ffs.

I think you’re probably right. It would be incredibly embarrassing to bin him now after all the signings, and probably unfair on balance. But something is so so so wrong with this team at the moment, whether it’s mentality or confused training or still getting to know one another. It sounds like none of the team have any confidence in Hladky which doesn’t help and he was a marquee signing.

Still think it can and probably will turn - we are clearly not a million miles from being pretty good - but as I’ve said before, when you look at the shape this club is now taking in most departments, and the kind of individual they are getting in, there is one rather important area that looks out of whack ...

He certainly didn't inspire confidence in me today.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Yes indeed. Said a while ago if you look at the appointments they have made in Ashton et al as opposed to the coaching staff it’s chalk and cheese. It looks like jobs for the boys to me. You’re not telling me we don’t have good players and I know the coaches won’t be telling them to concede headers from every set piece, but something is clearly amiss.

Yep, exactly. Cook needs a big result at Wycombe for me, he has to show he can do that at this club. This can’t go on too much longer, that’s the bottom line.

September is a crucial month now for Cook, if the erpormances were bad i would be saying yes sack him but the performances have been really good and quality but we seem to tire or lack that composure to see out a game and needs rectifying , I dont want us to resort back to defensive tactics or not score a goal in every game i am entertained we just need to back it up with wins

"It looks like jobs for the boys to me".

You mean Cook bringing in players he's previously worked with?

I think Cook has had enough new players. If he thinks the new goalkeeper is an upgrade on the previous two, I think it best to leave money for his replacement for the Christmas transfer window.

Five games, two goals a game conceded, they are a bad team end of. I’d have Cook in Monday morning and tell him he’s got two games, minimum of four points required and something that resembles a competitive team or it’s time to go.

The Chairman and Ashton have talked a lot about expectations and standards. Talking is cheap. The team needs to delivering and if Cook can’t manage that, cheerio. This is League 1, for pity sake.

The manager? The keeper? The coaching staff? They can all be questioned currently.

They also talked about such major changes needing time and needing support from the fans...they also said to trust the process...but you've conveniently ignored all of that haven't you...

I'd argue there's no point just replacing centre backs - it's akin to shuffling the deck chairs on the centre back. Our biggest problem today was not getting our foot on the ball and controlling the game. We were constantly giving it back to them and are completely incapable of tackling in the middle of the park. Eventually something was going to give.

New keeper I do agree with, though.

You've obviously seen us play a helluva lot more than I have! so not going to disagree with you, esp since several others have said the same as yourself.

I, of course, meant shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic rather than shuffling deck chairs on the centre back... even though that's a very interesting image!

I just think replace Woolfenden with Edmundson or bring in someone is not going to improve much. Defending set pieces should start on the training pitch yet where is that sign of improvement or understanding? And how can a defence with players such as Harper, Evans, Fraser, Burns, Edwards and Pigott (or Bonne) be left having the ball come at them so often because we lack the ability to either keep hold of the ball or win the ball. It's the basics we're failing at and the scariest thing is we're failing at them time and time again.
