I’m not sure I see both Edwards and Celina starting matches in the same team. Both are the x-factor players and maybe too cavalier to start both.

Both Burgess and Edmundson must be certain starters. Burns looks like he’s got a good engine and must be a certain starter. Fair play to Donacien… he deserves to start.

Burgess

Agree with most of GB’s selection, and I would add Woolfenden. IMO we have too many for the front 6,, which will either lead to unrest among those not playing , or Cook tries to keep them all content by constantly changing the team.
Also Edwards has to be in the squad, even if he doesn’t start, he can make a big impact when defenders are tiring.

Agree Burgess and Edmundson

Isn’t Celina going to play number10? And therefore it’s Fraser who missed out… which says something about the squad

Burns is carrying tendinitis which could flare again… who can play his wide role??

Been decent for the most part but doesn’t walk in. Woolf has really pushed forward this season.

“Based on what we have seen”. Not who we think the best central defenders we have.

Edmund in doesn't walk into the team based in two games. One if which was an utter disaster and one of which he was fairly solid.

I’m not looking for people’s best eleven. I’m looking for the players who have excelled in their position.

Based purely on observation from home games and in relation to defending, Burgess has convinced me a lot more than Wolfenden so far. Seems that Edmundson was much better yesterday than last time out but remains to be seen who my second centre back would be.

Burgess agreed, other than against Bolton, but Edmundson hasn’t looked any better than Woolfenden as of yet - especially as, before last Saturday, the Woolfenden and Burgess partnership seemed to be developing well.

Fascinating how JD has stepped up to be most people preferred RB at the moment. Just goes to show how things can change. I’m pleased for him, but still hope that we see the old KVY back before too long - he was so exciting to watch and the first on most people team sheet not so long ago.

Woolfie hasn’t done enough this season to be inked in as a starter so I’d Defoe go with Burgess and Edmundson (the latter on reputation than his form here so far)

I’d also put Walton as a nailed on starter - which is harsh on Hadkly, but right now I think Walton is the better keeper. Once we get going I’d give Hadders another go simply because he’s our player and will be here next season.

Thought Hladky was really good yesterday, didn't pull off any brilliant saves but there were a fair few awkward bouncing long shots etc that he held on to and looked really comfortable with.

I'd have agreed on Harper after the first 3 games but he's not been good enough in recent matches. No way does he walk into the side.

Both Celina and Fraser switched between no.10 and wide left.

I would prefer Fraser in the team. Not saying Edwards and Celina can’t play together, but they’re the kind who are giving a bit of license to roam and take risks and don’t think we can afford to start both. I think Fraser could be a really important player for us. Not there yet, but some of his link play and passing was class. Too many options at 10. Chaplin, Barry and Pigott could play there. And now Harper has put his hand up to play a deep no. 10 role.

I would expect Aluko to be Burns understudy.

No one deserves to walk into this team. The great thing about the squad Ashton and Cook have put together is that there is competition for every single position. If you’re not performing to your max you will be replaced. This has been missing for a long time at this club and should hopefully drive high standards everywhere on the pitch.

I think that has to be true of any team, and kind of goes without saying. I guess the question is as we sit here today, who are the ones nailed on for starting now.

Bonne tops that list for me. It’s so refreshing to have a forward of his quality leading the line. Turning up to games knowing your striker has a goal in him is a feeling that has been a long time coming as a town fan. He’s definitely hit a purple patch and long may it continue, he’s looked quality.

Personally I wouldn’t include Edwards in my list, just by virtue of the competition in the attacking areas and Celina’s arrival and return to fitness. We’ve got a lot of quality in those 3 attacking positions behind and wide of Bonne. It won’t be easy to drop 2 of Burns, Celina, Edwards, Fraser, Chaplin. Edwards has looked quality and really exciting in possession, but I don’t think we know the best blend yet across those 3 to really answer the question. The reality is I’m sure they’ll interchange and all play a decent amount of football this season. I feel like Chaplin hasn’t really got going yet, I think he’ll certainly have a say this season.

Behind them I think Morsy is probably nailed on, he’s quality and the Evans / Harper partnership hasn’t looked right for the most part.

Defensively Burgess is a beast, he statistically won the most headers in the league last season and if you watch yesterdays game you won’t be surprised to hear that. I think it’s probably Edmondson or Woolfy with him. Coulson has really impressed me, especially going forward, I think he’s nailed on given his recent contribution.

So Coulson, Burgess, Morsy, Bonne I would say will be certain regulars this season, injuries permitting. Early days for Janoi, albeit promising. GK TBC, Morsy’s midfield partner still TBC and the 3 ahead of the also TBC and will probably rotate relatively frequently.

Based on what you have said 'deserved' GlasgowBlue:

Burns, Edwards and Bonne. Donacien had a very good game yesterday, but he needs to keep delivering, not just have 1 good game then have a run of poor ones, but that's probably the issue for a lot of our players.

Like you mentioned, Celina and Morsy are there based on their reputation, but I want to see them actually delivering on the pitch, so at the moment neither of those 'deserve' to be in my team. This is the mistake we make with any new signing saying they are brilliant and are going to tear this league up without really seeing them play. However, their positions are crying out for them both to grab it by the scruff of the neck and make it their own as no one else has held their hand up so far.

Only Bonne, Edwards and Burns at the moment. The rest is up for grabs although Celina will be a shoe in as will Burgess and Edmunson very soon. I still see the full back slots, goalkeeper and centre mid very much up for grabs still.

I would say Morsy, based on his appearance v West Ham isn’t just based on reputation or expectation. He did enough for me in that game to warrant a place over Evans on recent form.

No-one deserves to walk into the team - every place needs to be earned.

So far, those earning their place are Donacien, Carroll, maybe Burns. Others might get there, but I'll reserve judgement for a few more games.

Bonne is scoring goals, but - until Saturday - hadn't done anything to persuade me he is a team player. That said, he was excellent at Lincoln, so possibly there might be a player there.

None of them.

No one's starting place is a given at the moment, and nor should it be.

"Walton as a nailed on starter"?!?!

He's played once and we shipped 5 goals at home. I'm not saying they were his fault particularly, but I'm not sure how you'd have him as a nailed on starter based on that.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Not sure on keepers but you would think Hladky will keep the jersey after Saturday
back 4 as per Saturday, Edwards left Burns right side mid.
Now I know this is on merit but Morsy, and Ceilina will start for the money paid out and Cooks comments.
I would say Carroll on form centre mid, Bonne upfront clearly at present.

The only Muff in Town.
