But this Mckenna chap - he's currently first team coach at United, who have an expensively assembled team of misfits that appear to play with no discernible pattern, relying on the " we've got better players than you" approach.

Something sounds familiar there....

I don’t know anything about McKenna.

But I’m fairly certain he has no say over who United sign. He’s a well qualified coach who was highly valued under Jose who took United to 2nd in the league (vastly overachieving).

Plus if United win their game in hand they would be 4th in the premier league, which is probably about fair for the squad that they have?

Wasn't United biggest problem this season the trophy-signing of an ageing player who isn't capable of tracking back? I doubt that was Solksjaer's choice let alone McKenna's.

Well if that's your logic, he helped a team of misfits finish 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 2nd in the top league in the world.

Don't be swayed by Man Utd's weird self entitled fans,

Warnock would be a better fit for this bunch of misfits, not a guy who isnt much older than the players. They just wont have the respect for him.

In the same way that the MK players clearly have no respect for Manning? Or how Bournemouth players had no respect for Howe?

It's obviously a gamble - but people from Man Utd have been praising him as a very good coach for several years now, it has however not been a great few years for them!

Football has moved on significantly since the days of John Sitton et. al.

Speak to anyone involved with modern football and, like it or not, the majority of the players coming through these days are special souls that need positive reinforcement and a modern style of management.

The quickest way to lose respect in the modern game, it would appear, is to come in all guns blazing, giving the squad a 'dose of reality'.

Or maybe they might have more respect for a coach nearer their age , we will have to wait and see .

What would our star-studded band of League 1 high flyers possibly have to gain from listening to chap who's only been running training sessions for the likes of Ronaldo, Pogba and Fernandes?

You mean a bit like Mikel Arteta who didn't have much managerial experience and who is not much older than the players. He seems to be doing ok now.

I'm sure it's not his fault, but when I've watched United in recent years I've been staggered by how easily sides pass through them and by how far short they are of being greater than the sum of their parts. That's not on hon of course, he's only been a big cog in a much bigger machine. If he is the type of bright, well schooled coach he seems to be then I am hopeful he'll lead us into Europe within 3 seasons.
