Whisper it… we may have FINALLY found the TECHNICAL manager we have needed sin 20:57 - Jan 8 with 4018 views | unstableblue | … 2009! I suppose it’s better late than never Technical and tactical drills translating from the training ground onto the pitch I am very impressed so far But let’s be clear Gillingham were woeful today, and there were some disconnects in our front 5. But the latter bodes well as if we can improve on that we could become very potent. Edmundson, Burns and Morsy were top of the Championship class today, and we haven’t be able to say that about Town players for a while. Bolton will be a tougher test, but a chance for revenge after a terrible display at home earlier in the season. I still think we may see a different 11 starting in a months time, with the likes of Celina, Chaplin, Piggot, Coulson and KVY maybe pushing. My favourite comment from McKenna, amongst the many insights to the game and style, was that the 11 who start are representing the 22 who trained the week before - classy. COYB

Whisper it… we may have FINALLY found the TECHNICAL manager we have needed sin on 02:03 - Jan 9 with 2694 views | BlueBadger | You've claimed that every manager of the Evans era bar Mick(who, ironically, actually did some coaching of his players and was considerably more 'technical than all the mangers you've championed) was a 'technical' manager. If anything, McKenna is the new Mick. All a 'technical' manager is, is one who actually knows what he's doing ad is more interested in actually coaching and managing rather than impressing shallow football hipsters, local journals and easily conned yokels. No way was that performance a new Mick performance. That was free flowing attacking football, at pace. Two of the centre backs were on the edge of the penalty box on more than one occasion from open play. Morsy provided an assist from open play from about level with the six yard box and hit the bar from that distance. Mick did a lot of good stuff, but McKenna is not the new Mick. He will do well to pick up his good points, but like we all should, he must be himself. I think I’ll be delighted with that.

Hats off to McKenna has matched Cook's best winning run in his first two matches. This shows clearly that Cook was way out of touch and relied on playing the game on paper rather than grass.

Agreed. I’m struggling to see where Celina fits. We now look a more hard-working team who work hard off the ball. I think Celina might unsettle that as he’s an x-factor player who has moments of magic, but then drifts out of the game. I can only see him being used off the bench to chase a game. And I’d want Chaplin to be ahead of Celina in the pecking order as he’ll give more to the team. I want to see us being a functioning eleven instead of having to rely on the odd piece of Celina magic.

“McKenna is the new Mick” Truly the most absurd statement. You’re so obsessed by being contrary that you resort to anything. But it’s a football message board, it’s about differing opinions, something you fundamentally ignore time after time. But if you think that McKenna is a akin to Mick, you go for it. But I’d say technical and progressive are the perfect terms for McKenna. And his interviews, the language and terms he uses, as compared to say a Mick, a Pulis or a Warnock. We’re talking chalk and cheese. Have a listen to Wilder also.

what an odd post. Firstly comparing a manager with any other manager when their managerial career stretches two games is odd. However that said based on everything we know about McKenna, what he says about the game, his football upbringing and how he has started here -- he's probably about as far from mick as you can get.

Cook was just too rigid I’m afraid; and listening to Leam Richardson in interview and his description of what he’s doing at Wigan, I think the technical mind was his - which I was wrong about. Add to that it was the case that despite his massive squad change he didn’t have the back up in wing backs that his system so desperately needs. Ipswich were so in control yesterday, the 3 centre backs meant we could whether the aerial battle when needed. His drills on the training ground had clearly transferred onto the pitch - and for me that’s the BIG thing…. The 7-10 days on the training pitch actually showed benefits… which just hasn’t been the case with recent managers. But to repeat The Gills were woeful… a win at Bolton and we really will be talking.

Behind Chaplin? Not for me, he contributes more in a match than Chaplin has managed apart from his little purple patch in my opinion. It's not really the job of the number 10 to be hurtling back into their own box to defend. I think people might be surprised here, McKenna has stated on numerous occasions that he knows the talent Celina has from various sources. I guess we will see over the next month or two, it's also possible he won't play again for us of course if people are right. Aluko is playing very well at the moment and has cemented the "number 10" role for the time being - he was excellent again yesterday. SB [Post edited 9 Jan 2022 17:20]

SB. Do you see Celina covering the pitch In the manner Aluko has recently? That's my concern. On the ball absolutely can expect good things from him. But alot our play yesterday came from Aluko. Morsy etc being in various places all through the game. I know celins likes to roam.. but it's more of a soft drift into areas.

I think I'll let McKenna decide what he wants him to do. He's clearly stated the instructions will be different in each match, as a number 10 Aluko wasn't defending deeply yesterday so roaming about in front of Morsy and Evans is clearly something he could do. Just think it's a bit harsh for so many in this thread to make assumptions and draw conclusions about a gifted player without even seeing him play in this team or what McKenna would want him to do. I have to admit I'm pretty baffled that many think Chaplin should be ahead of him. Penalty aside he's contributed very little outside his first 4 matches. As I said, we will see over the next few months what McKenna wants and who plays. SB [Post edited 9 Jan 2022 17:28]

Outside his first 4 games? It took him a couple and then he scored 4 in 3 I think it was before being dropped for celina. Chaplin has 5 goals in 10 appearances. Not to shabby. Either way really. It's a bit different to comparing judge with sears isn't it lol.
