The Huddersfield keeper has been booked five times this season for time wasting. The article is almost celebratory in its tone and fails to ask why referees are yet to send off a keeper for time wasting. I guess it’s because time wasting is obvious yet not so obvious as a bad foul. Still, would love to see a ref brave enough to show two yellows to a keeper.
The blatant time-wasting is getting out of control - it's a bug-bear of mine, that goes on throughout the League.
Kicking the ball away, deliberately dawdling over a throw then deciding someone else will take it after all, goal kicks, pretend injuries..... all the tricks in the book.
Yet referees do nothing meaningful about it - ever.
It's amazing how these teams don't feel the need to do it when they then concede. Portsmouth blatantly took the Michael the other week - as soon as the clock hit 70 minutes, two of them, including the GK decided to have a sit down. Nothing wrong with them.
At the moment, there are too many opportunities in football which allow for 'game management'. I'm sure I have read on here about Wycombe setting the record on occassions this season for the least amount of time for the ball being in play!
Something needs to be changed with either stopping the watch when the ball is out of play (and shortening the actual match time) or clamping down on those responsible. The latter option would be easier but do you trust referees to implement it when they wont even book players for swearing at them.

Keepers are to a man sh!t houses. Look at the way some of them claim the ball in the air with their foot up ready to decapitate someone.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I've always wondered whether football should introduce stop clocks like in Rugby which would stop all this.
I also think players that clearly and deliberately foul someone to stop them on the break should be sent off.
Kepa was warned on at least 9 of Liverpool’s 11 penalties to move back and get on his line.
I’d like to see keepers booked for time wasting and told, in no uncertain terms, if they do it again they’ll be off. Make an example of someone.
A decade or so ago kicking the ball away was a yellow card. Everyone that did it got booked. It stopped.
Then they stopped booking players and it’s completely crept back in now. Really very simple to advise clubs at the start of a season it won’t be tolerated and ask refs to take action.
Sadly you’ll never stop players falling over to buy free kicks with the sort of contact that wouldn’t even knock a domino over that was standing on its edge.

Saw a good idea from Mark Clatenburg the other day where if you get done for time wasting then the decision reverses.
Take too long over a Goal Kick and of ref blows up it is a corner, too long over a throw in and the other team get it etc

Absolutely not. As frustrating as it is when it’s a team doing it against you, if we were 1-0 up in the Play-Off final and Walton was time wasting, I’m sure nobody would be moaning.
Part and parcel of football, some teams are better than others at it. I thoroughly enjoy it when we’re winning and run it into the corner to wind down the time.

That's actually a good idea.
It is but can you imagine the controversy over what’s deemed to be time wasting at, say, a throw-in? Is four seconds too long? Seven seconds? Each ref would interpret it differently, as would fans.

Isn't that true of all refereeing though? There's always going to be an element of interpretation, and rightly so.

Running into the corner is a world away from a lot of the sh*t we have to watch on a weekly basis where the game just grinds to a halt
Was reading a stat a few weeks ago, that Southampton had a player go down 'injured' between 60-70 minutes in most of their PL games this season. And the players then all come over to take on instructions, water, energy gels.
So infuriating when players go down and there is clearly nothing wrong with them. Perhaps I am being bias but it doesn't seem to be something we do that often.

Was it Sunderland at home when we were absolutely battering them, they had no answer whatsoever. Keeper goes down with an injury, the whole team goes and gets instruction from the manager and they change shape. Basically creating a 'timeout' for themselves.

Portsmouth.
The GK went down, as planned, and before he had even hit the deck the water bottles had been put to the side of the pitch.
Also Karl Robinson admitted he told his players to waste time and feign injury so they could have a breather.

One player sat down and the whole team sprinted to the bench - so obvious but the referees have so few tools to deal with it.

This has happened against us quite a lot too this season. A simple way of stopping it would be to prevent players from being allowed bed to their respective bench for a ‘drink’ at such times.

Yeah and I think we are going to have to get used to it if we are still a L1 team next season. The trick is obviously to start games fast and be ahead before the 60 minute mark so you don't give them the chance to sh!thouse it!

Sunderland did that down here when we were battering them during the first half. The keeper goes down with a mysterious injury which allows the team to go over to that little sh*t Johnson to receive some instructions.
Edit - posted earlier.

That is true, but when judging acceptable period of time, that just feels like it would be more contentious than blowing for a foul.
All this said, if we somehow get to Wembley and are 1-0 up with four minutes of injury time left, I fully expect Walton to s5ithouse as if his life depends on it.
