Anyone up for a strong and stable, utterly avoidable emergency rate rise this week? This is turning into an even more expensive give away to the rich than we thought. Hope they appreciate it.

Big fat vote of confidence in the new govt's economic plan then on 08:35 - Sep 26 with 2303 views | Churchman | People nobody voted for, policies nobody voted for. But the markets across the world are voting now. Had they bothered to do the work they’d have known what’s coming, but since they only believe the vacant idiot they see in the mirror, that was never going to happen. Their ‘plans’ if you can call them that are not funded. Their credibility is shot to pieces and this latest bunch of mugs have only been going two or three weeks. A Governor of the Bank of England whose been asleep for years hardly helps. Good commentary here on ‘trickle down economics’. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/sep/25/forget-trickle-down-what-the-uk Basically, it says that the policy Truss and the numbskulls are wedded to - more to the rich and the the wealth creators and the money will trickle down to the less wealthy has never worked, ever. Not one instance. In fact, it works the other way. The poor just get poorer in real terms and the rich richer. The people that actually generate wealth, ideas and growth, according to the article are the middle section earners (I think it says the 10-90%) who also spend/save. But then you’d have thought the mugs at the wheel would have done a bit of reading or consulted with people that know about markets, economies, how things work etc, but nah none of that. Reading and research isn’t their thing. Let’s double down of failed policies of the 70s/80s. I knew from a former colleague that worked for Truss in MoJ that she was as thick as slurry but the speed at which the hag and her sidekick have catastrophically made things worse is truly stunning. Agree totally. But evidence-based policies and politics will never catch on in our democratic system.

It's going to be very entertaining watching the Treasury and the BoE playing tug of war over this. Well, when I say entertaining I mean scary as hell.

Middle earners don't make sizeable political donations, put on junkets for ministers or attend expensive fundraising events.

Enough people will take the next available racist bait and on we go.

Yes indeed, although I can't claim it as a typo (being honest) - I just thought of it (incorrectly, I now know) as a new govt, given the huge difference between the new and old leaderships. I'm no Tory though mr XYZ, as you would have realised if you'd taken time to read what I wrote instead of jumping on me!

I agree which is why I think those agitating for Republicanism and PR and all the rest are deluded. Look at Italy and Sweden. Our two party system isn’t perfect, far from, but we could do a whole lot worse. Which is the English in a nutshell of course.

The only people referring to this as a "new" government are tories. I've read what you wrote. What's this "huge difference" between the old and new leaderships? From the perspective of the worst off 90% of the country.

Point of order. Sweden is not doing worse even with the Swedish Democrats in a position of influence. We’re talking about a party that is as awful as the Conservatives on xenophobic and islamophobic nationalism but is left of Labour on the social democratic underpinnings of the Swedish economy. The UK is really screwed as the right control the government, the opposition and even the public debate through the media. We have a hopeless choice of hard-right or centre-right when it’s that limited push and pull over the past few decades that has left the UK economy and society in such a precarious and hollowed-out position.

People have no excuse not to take to the streets. https://wesayenough.co.uk/oct1/ Trouble is, it hasn't really started hitting home yet so no one will bother - at least not in the numbers to make a difference. I would go, but I have things to do on Saturday.... I have a nasty feeling I'm just one of the frogs slowly boiling.

I’m not sure I agree on this. The SD are blatantly racist and homophobic. I don’t think the Tories aren’t, some of them anyway, but I think they are far more progressive than the SDs.

We need to learn from our Eastern brethren on this one, and extend it a bit. Hands in the till should be chopped off, but at the neck to be on the safe side.
