Nailed on.

Finish one point behind in 3rd place and then lose to Wycombe or Derby who finish 20 points behind us.

The heartbreak potential is amazing:

Lose to Barnsley to a Norwood goal
S5ithoused by Wycombe
Bolton get revenge for 2000 with a Barry Knight tribute act ref
Scum fan Derby boss celebrating a McGoldrick goal

It will be very much for the best if we just go up automatically

Disagree - I think Barnsley could come right into it. Been in good form and with a couple of games in hand will be right on Wednesdays tail if they win them.

I think it’ll be which team handles the games against the other two promotion contenders, best.

Buy well and we will be fine. Probably be fine now to be honest if we are injury free.

I think if we get a decent return from the next 3 and make some good additions we will take some stopping.

I fancy us to win it, Wednesday or Barnsley automatic. Plymouth will finish 4th or lower I reckon.

If we beat Plymouth & Wednesday at home then we only need to match their form for the rest of the season and we finish top - unless someone like Barnsley have an exceptional run.

All 3 teams will drop points but having both contenders at home is a bid advantage.

Still think we will win the league by 5+ points and Barnsley will win the playoffs. It's Plymouth who will dip out I reckon.

I like the idea that it could be a 3-horse race for second ... while we romp to the title.

As for the play-offs, I heard an interesting idea mooted today:

5th should play at home against 6th one-off match. Winner goes through.
4th then plays winner of the above match again at home. Winner goes to Wembley
Wembley final where 3rd place are automatically there. 4th would have had to win 1 home match to get there, 5th 2 matches (the second one away) and 6th would need to have won 2 away matches.

Yep. Plymouth and Wednesday will start dropping away mid February I reckon.
We’ll be champions with two to play.

I can see us doing that. By points with half the season gone, Plymouth are the best team in the division. But they’re not. We are.

We have been the better team in every match we have played apart from for a few short spells in a few of them. Unfortunately for us, Plymouth have shown better game management than us.

Whilst I can see us strengthening and pulling clear, I can also see Plymouth staying the course. They were desperately unlucky to not even make the play-offs last season with their points tally. They have started this one well and I think they have determination to go better this one. I will happily see us and Plymouth as top two (in either order).

Nice. More like the IPL format? Much fairer and more incentive for teams to continuing pushing.

Who ever is not as good as the player we buy maybe. Just a guess. Got the face the fact Wally that some of our new favourites won’t be the ones to take us to the level we want to get to.

No, scrap the playoffs. 3rd place up automatically, it's a league and should be decided as a league. Will never happen though, too much money involved,

Wallers is TWTD's most tragic troll. He's stopped being a Paz tribute act because Phil keeps banning them, so he's decide to be Karaoke Frimmers instead.

I'm not sure what's sadder, tbh.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Todays game showed one thing for me.... We definitely need a player to rotate with Ladapo.

We were able to bring on Aluko and Edwards without losing what we had already had on the pitch for 60 odd minutes or whatever it was... BUT Jackson coming on was the only one I felt really stood out as a sub which reduced a position in quality compared to the others. We get that signing right and it will really help.

a niche perspective

100% this.

And the continuing confident assumption by some on here that Plymouth will drop away, & we'll be in the top two come end of the season, seems to me a bit arrogant, giving potentially added motivation for PA, SW, & Barnsley to prove those people wrong.

It was a three horse race in 1999/2000 to get to promotion to the Premier League. Even though we lost that particular race we went up via the playoffs. Try a little positivity.
