It's a Tangerine Dream.... on 23:24 - Jan 18 by Rocky
I did say "this season". He is the perfect manager to install confidence in players and drag their performances up. A great fix-it.

Fully agree. He’ll keep them up and enhance his reputation. But if they are daft enough to offer him a longer contract than he’ll leave them in a worst position than what they are in now.

He left us in a better position than when he came in to be fair. He generally does very well short term, then things go backwards and get dull, but most places he's been he's left them in a better or no worse position than when he arrived.

Il wager he doesn’t. He’s been on a downward trajectory for a while and this swan song is a step too far. Logic dictates it’s a certainty given prior success at this but I’ll go the other direction and say this isn’t going to end well. Blackpool we’re getting some good results playing on the front foot at the start of the season - I think getting the balance right will take a little too long and they’ll drop.

Is that true though? Within a short time of his going, Sunderland, Wolves and ourselves were relegated.
Mind you, that’s possibly more a reflection of the state of the clubs than him. From what we’ve heard from people in the club, MM stuck to the first team with no real interest in the rest of it (KDs interview?). He was of course excellent for us results wise for a few years, especially given the environment he was working in.
Yes, he’s very much a short term ‘impact’ manager. I wish him well and I’m sure he will steady the Blackpool ship

Yes, it's true. When he came here we were rock bottom of the Championship with a squad loaded with past it mercenaries on short term deals and a mixed bag of loanees. He left us 12th in the Championship with a decent squad with some good young players coming through, most of whom he blooded. Wolves and Sunderland were in the Championship when he took over, he left them in the Prem, with Wolves only just having dipped into the bottom 3 after a poor run of results. Not sure he can be held accountable for Hurst destroying a capable squad or Terry being out of his depth as temporary manager.

Yep, rightly or wrongly fans don't want a manager like him for the long term so he gets very little rope. He needs to be like one of those Italiam managers who just comes in, keeps a team up, pockets a bonus, leaves and then just chills until the following January and does the same.
Maybe he'll be more accepting of something like that after Cardiff, but it would really suit him and increase his longevity in the game and re-enhance his reputation

Oh dear, I feel sorry for all Blackpool fans. So many better managerial options available like Mr Blobby, Roland Rat and Basil Brush.
A side that the owners changed the playing style to make things more entertaining for the fans, brought in a new manager tasked with employing that style. Only to abandon it later, bring in a new manager, play defensive and then get relegated anyway.

It's what Warnock ended up doing in the later part of his career, to some extent at least. No harm in going in, achieving a short term goal, then moving on. The average life expectancy of a manager is only about 18 months these days anyway I think? So no harm in embracing the short termism of modern football and basically being a 6 month trouble shooter.

He didn't do so badly in that scenario in 2012-13. Got what had been a shambolic team to the playoffs a couple of seasons later.
I don't get where this Mick is a bad manager thought comes from. You might not like his style of play but he's a good manager with a really good Championship CV.
They might still go down but with Mick they have a better chance of staying up.

2012-13 is 10 years ago.
It's like when we appointed Jewell on the distant memory of success he had had years before
