This was somewhat inspired by Clive_Baker saying Davis has improved since arriving.

From memory, most improved player awards go to players that have been here a previous season. But arguments could be made for someone like Ladapo too.

A lot has been made in regards to how McKenna and his team have improved players. Who do you think currently deserves this?

Agree with that. He seems to coast through games at the moment. So much so you don’t always notice him. Which is what you want from a defender.

Woolfenden (Luuuuke). Bit part player before McKenna. Now one of the best centre-halves in the division. His calm assurance (when defending and when starting attacks) is crucial to the way we play. I'm sure he could play at a much higher level.

Do you know what, i'd probably agree.

I would have been a little bit anxious with him on the ball early season, but perhaps Davis/Leigh have helped him too.

Fair play to him and there's a great mix of attributes in that back three of Harry, Wolf and Cam.

You also feel JD can step into any of those positions too if needed.

A tricky one because it can be quite a few but my vote would be Walton - clean sheet record this season says it all plus the penalty saves. Also, my eyes tell me his passing, composure and touch has improved a lot this season.

Burgess is the stand out improved for me..
Shout outs to Freddy, and Morsy...Both have adapted their games.
Morsy adding a lot more composure and real Captains head to his game, imo. His biggest flaw was discipline. He looks to be really on top of that now..

Davis, understandably, certainly looked like he was still in 'getting up to speed' mode for his first few games but is now only behind Chaplin in the POTS stakes imo.

Burgess looks far more assured and generally less panicky but we've also improved a lot as a team on dominating games and restricting opponents' chances that he hasn't had his vulnerabilities tested for a while. Looked like he was running and passing through treacle at Bristol Rovers only 8 games ago and didn't defend goals at Oxford and Wycombe well at all.

Think there's an element of when things are going well everyone's brilliant and when they're not half the team are hopeless when evaluating players sometimes and right now on our run no-one's looking bad.

In terms of someone who was good last season and outstanding this season I'd put Chaplin forward - looks a natural playing in that behind-the-striker role now, scoring more goals than ever before and is an 8/10 pretty much every game.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought Burgess. I didn't think he was good enough on the ball, he's been excellent. Very happy to be proved wrong.

There are so many to choose from, which is testament to KMcK and the rest of the coaching team. I'd go with Burgess too, or Freddie, or any one of another 3 or 4 at least.

You're right, there are so many that have improved. Some massively, some just ticking forwards.. I feel that anyone that isn't improving, will start to look like they are going backwards. Possibly moved on on the summer...

Agree with that Henners. Burgess has certainly proved a few doubters wrong and long may it continue, we do seem to have better balance with him on the left and Woolfy right sided, but he's still for me the weakest of the back 4. Excellent in the air, but sometimes a little flat footed on the deck. Agree about the goals at Oxford and Wycombe, I thought the challenge for the penalty at Bolton was lazy as well.

He got a little caught out on Saturday too, although I think if memory serves that actually led to their corners which we ultimately took the lead from on the counter, so maybe he's claiming some kind of assist :)

As I say he's certainly worthy of keeping the shirt, even when Edmundson comes back as his performances have warranted it, but I'm still not entirely convinced he's much more than a decent enough L1 head it / block it.

Even though he’s lost his place, don’t forget Janoi. He’s been outstanding since the start of last season and has consistently improved.

I think from KMc whole tenure I would edge towards Donacien.

A man who had been loan out to Fleetwood/Acc. Stanley - who’s Town career looked almost certain to end - to then become one of the most important players in our system of play - and the partnership he and Burns built has largely been critical for us.

Yeah if we go up can see that position being one earmarked for an upgrade. Edmundson gives us more and I think we should be getting our better footballers in the team wherever possible but agree even if fit the backline is settled and performing well enough that he doesn't get in.

Always thought with Burgess he's maybe a 10% upgrade on James Wilson - as you say can do the basics well (sometimes very well) but has clear limitations on the ball. One of the great things with McKenna is that everyone's clearly so well coached in terms of taking on instructions that we're rarely in a situation where Burgess is stuck on the ball, being closed down with no options and is forced to smack a long ball or play a risky pass.

Suppose Baggott's a long term option for that position as the club clearly like him but won't be seeing him in the first team for a couple of seasons I'd wager, if he's good enough at that point to warrant 38 games in the Prem of course.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Woolfie was actually the other one that sprang to mind but Cam gets it for me as he's wrestled the place away from Edmunson and just looks far more composed than he did. I think he started from a lower point than Woolf as well but the 2 of them deserve credit for really forging a strong CB partnership

Burgess for me.

I had a few arguments on here with people writing him off but I have always rated him above Fridge which was what started the row. He is now undroppable along with probably 10 others.

I’d say Ladapo is much improved since joining us. He had to re learn his role in a totally different system to that which he was used to playing in .

Not sure why you got a down arrow as it's a fair enough shout. He just hasn't played enough. I also think he has just tried so hard and given his all rather than massive improvement. And he's always tried really. A lot of respect for Jackson.

Completely disagree. I think to call him improved it plays down his earlier performances which were very good. All that has happened with him is his goals have caught up to where you would expect them to be.

He always contributed a lot to the side though.

His early performances were decent but for me he's a different beast now. His movement has really improved over the course of the season and he's now consistently a goal threat when we plays as well as being a good hold up player and leading the press, which he's done well from day 1. I think he's improved significantly over the course of this season.

Burgess, 100%. I think Keogh might have had something to do with this as Burgess has come on leaps and bounds since Keogh has been around.
