Who hasn’t popped on a Britain First t-shirt as it was convenient

Exactly. Nearly put it on instead of a Town shirt on Saturday. So easy to do considering every house has one for convenience.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

I was shocked to click on the link and see it was in Grays, bet there's not many Britain First T shirts there!

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

He had Generation Identity stuff all over his social media too (no, me neither but after a quick search it seems they’re one of the many far right groups springing up across Europe and responsible for attacks on Muslims especially).

I remember watching a documentary about them a few years ago and their leader said he wasn’t racist he was an “identitarian”. When he was asked to explain what he meant by that, he said Europe was losing its identity because of the amount of brown people.

Didn’t take too long for the mask to slip there!

This is linked to a conspiracy theory known as the great replacement, which was featured in a Cambridge University research project discussed here.

The following is lifted from the link.

The researchers also set out to measure the extent of belief in a conspiracy theory known as ‘the great replacement’: the idea that Muslim immigration is part of a bigger plan to make Muslims the majority of a country’s population.

“Originally formulated in French far-right circles, the widespread belief in a supposedly outlandish nativist conspiracy theory known as the ‘great replacement’ is an important marker and predictor of the Trump and Brexit votes,” said Leal. Some 41% of Trump voters and 31% of Brexit voters subscribed to this theory, compared with 3% of Clinton voters and 6% of Remain voters.

Bit ironic for a Britain First supporter to have a holiday home in Turkey.

Then again, I supposes it's a bit like Nigel Lawson who lived in France but supported Brexit and denied the same opportunity to much less wealthy Britons.

The general idea goes back even further.

If you read the Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan is informing everyone at the dinner how the black race are breeding faster and will replace the white race, talks about the "Rise of the Coloured Empires" a 'scientific' book he's been reading.

Funny how even in 1920s America, this is sufficient context to make the readers know this character is 'bad'. While now we have people trying to push the same stuff rebranded.

Unpatriotic c**ts. Can't they make up their own racist conspiracy theories rather than import them from France.

What is of real concern is that we have politicians, with little interest other than what will further their career, in the positions there are in.

These people have no thought for the long term consequences of their words - hence we end up with Brexit, the high number of Covid deaths and a financial crisis (brought about by Truss).

Lies, distortions and inflammatory comments seem the order of the day as the country suffers under the consequences of serial incompetents floundering from one failure to another.

It is going to take years to clear this mess.

And papers like the Mail for running with this story.

But if you look at the best-rated comments on the original article, you will see that this type of article goes down well with their readers.

Sadly, it taps into a narrative that things were much better years ago when golliwogs were common and there were a lot less black and brown faces in this country, as well as a narrative that the police are woke.

I'm sure that the right wing media that was so concerned about racism in the Labour party a few years ago will be apoplectic about the racism that is currently rife throughout the Tory party.

Sadly, I think it goes beyond furthering their careers because there appears to be an ideological (and in my view sinister) basis (in the US and UK) for this type of thing.

Interesting to know if any shadow Cabinet members have called this out. Or are they keeping their heads down as they seem to be doing with regard to the racist nature of, say, the Tory plans to stop the boats?

One person who has consistently called the Tories out on racism and Islamophobia is Baroness Warsi but she has been largely side-lined.

Here is an excellent article.

I do this all the time, just casually slip into my Britain Furst T shirt, it's easy to do because you just pick them up in Primark.

It's not like they're a specialist item that you would have to go out of your way to order directly from Britain first or anything.

Easy mistake, anyone could do it

You've misled me with your sarcasm there. I've been all over Primark trying to find one, and in the end I had to pick up a N*rwich City shirt from their bargain bin for 99p.

I wasted so much time in the hunt, that I only just got to the bogs in time. Lucky for me I'd spotted the lack of toilet roll earlier and had the foresight to do my shopping first.

CAMRA weighing in to this now....

BBC News - Camra award ban for Essex pub displaying golly dolls
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-65260945

"Weighing in" might be overdoing a bit!

That said, some of the responses to the CAMRA tweet are shocking. One was particularly disgusting.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Looks like this odious scrote is about to have his collar felt once he returns to the UK. And the evidence below highlights that previously hanging these things in his pub while posting the comment

"“They used to hang them in Mississippi years ago.”

was not an isolated incident, or innocent of any intent to offend either.
