Real shame cannot now access these two via the awful eadt site which now requires registration (link dies not work) or worse still subscribe to the narwicch run archant site
These two would be perfect to head up the new Town TV

KOA is my favourite youtube channel, this is going to ruin it. Andy and Stu are amazing at picking the games apart. Ross does brilliant match day vlogs and meet the oppo stuff.
At least we have blue Monday, it's a shame they don't post more stuff or do match day vlogs.
Totally agree would live to see Andy and Stu on town TV.

The Ipswich Star is the exact same content and absolutely fine. Only thing I get is a pop up advertising an option to pay £3 a month for an advert free version. This seems to cover the detail:

Me too.....
Since they put the paywall in, you can view a certain number of articles before you get asked to subscribe after it's detected you've read a certain number.
It only starts counting towards the free article cap since Friday so you've probably not hit that number yet.

I was expecting an Andy and Stu React after yesterday's game on YT. But I only got a truncated version not even 2 mins long. Thought it was odd. And thinking about it.... the Boot Room seemed shortened.
If the EADT have tried to cash in because we're on a big high then I think its pretty sh1tty.... and terrible timing. Maybe we can access all their content without the pay wall.... but I would expect this to backfire if we can't. I didn't realise they had put a pay wall in. Did the lads on KOA mention this?

I am not sure what their ultimate intentions are but I suppose it has to be seen in the context of a local newspaper industry which is in serious decline, due to rapidly falling circulation.
Incidentally, the latest video on YouTube says "Watch the full video on our website" and includes a link.
I suppose this is designed to make traffic go to their website as well as YouTube, and so boost their ad revenue, rather in the same way that they switched match coverage away from Twitter.

I believe that there will be an announcement about it by the EADT in some form on Monday, probably similar to what is at the top of the front page of the EDP now
Clearly they're not happy with how the EADT Brand etc is performing, the loss of Mike Bacon and other long time journalists (which you'd assume would be on more than the new live reporters), the gutting of other sports coverage and the pushing of merchandise by KOA and now this backs that up.
As I said yesterday, they (Newsquest) probably don't see direct value of their journalists simply posting their work on third party media and they believe that as they are paying them, they should be earning from their content rather than dishing it up for free on social platforms for big tech companies.
Of course, the likes of NewsQuest probably don't see that much of the Kings of Anglia content from Stuart and Andy has probably helped to drive many more hits for their written content that otherwise wouldn't be there. Yes they will lose some of that goodwill now, but anything they lose they probably forecast they will gain by people now having to go to their website to see limited free content they might have got on socials before.
However at the end of the day even if Newsquest only get a fairly small chunk of the fanbase to sign up for the £6 per month plan that's still extra revenue they are not getting now and that is what they are doing this for at the end of the day. This has to be taken into context with the way the local newspaper industry is. There is a reason that Archant were close to going to the wall before the original buyout and their subsequent sale to NewsQuest. The old model simply wasn't sustainable in modern times.

First port of call should have been the KOA lads promoting the “like and subscribe” route to monetize further their YouTube content. Alex Griffin for example has 40k + followers on YT and puts out much the same match day content as KOA - albeit it’s clearly aimed at a different audience.
Going straight to the £6 a month is taking the nuclear option straight off the bat.

Agree that it's not a very smooth transition, they seem to be going for the big bang approach when they should have phased it in over a longer period.
Also the fact they're seemingly suggesting that you can register for free for a limited number of articles but need to pay for them all begs the question why they didn't phase registration to view in first before pivoting straight to pay.
It all most likeliness though someone in Newsquest has took the decision and said things need to change and quick and there is no time to waste and they want to impress someone higher up. There's been a big drive in the former Archant area to drive down costs with a fair few redundancies and drive up revenue in recent months.
Gutted about this. No warning about it either. Love Warren and Watson . £5.99 a month wasn't it?
Newspapers shot themselves in the arse when they put all their content online for free. Now there is a rush to shut the stable door after the horse wandered out, had 10 kids, died and now his great grandkids are dying. Too little too late.
£5.99 a month is a bargain, if online content didn't exist and you had to buy a newspaper everyday, publishing would be thriving and quality journalism could afforded.
The decline of journalism and the tendency to rely on 'click-bait' can be directly traced back to the fact people won't pay for journalism anymore.

Indeed. Whilst Dublin says nothing wrong there, however much I do like the KoA stuff I don't live anywhere near Ipswich and their content isn't that good that I'm going to pay for it.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I guess the reality is the only sport that gets read on EADT is ITFC - it's why Col U coverage dropped previously, why someone like Mike Bacon gone as Speedway doesn't get clicks and they'll just get someone to cover home meetings, local football and cricket just collated by free lancers etc.

I'd wager most of the EADT readership are less likely to have a YouTube account and just watch videos, but they're more likely to understand and be comfortable with a simple membership like this.
Partly to keep Archant going but also to keep an eye of what's going in Ipswich and Suffolk (where I no longer live) and because they aren't that expensive, I have separate digital subscriptions to the Star and EADT, and a print subscription to Suffolk Life.
Hopefully, I won't have to pay any more.

Hate to break it to you, but Archant haven't been going for some time. They were bought by turnaround specialists RCapital in 2020 and last year NewsQuest bought them and kicked out much of the original management and merged them into the NewsQuest group. Archant no longer exist.
There's been a number of redundancies recently the most recent one in March where amongst a number of others, feature editors, were laid off.

It's understandable that the EADT need to find revenue streams, but the problem that they have is that the only decent writers that they have are the ITFC team. I'd imagine that a significant proportion of the fans who read (and watch) Watson and Warren are young enough/tech savvy enough to circumvent a paywall or simply go elsewhere for coverage. Their real issue is that any non-ITFC content on their website is toe-curlingly bad and appears to have been written by 12 year olds who don't even know how to fact check, ask questions or do anything other than copy and paste content from emails sent in by local businesses looking for free publicity... I guess we get the media that we deserve?
