Difficult one isn't it. I think I read somewhere that Blackburn had an option to buy but was in excess of £6m.

We may have a similar option to buy in our loan agreement (although not at that level).

He was brilliant last night.

I'm sure I read his purchase clause at Blackburn for the loan during he first half of the season was 5m.

Not sure we are going to get him for anything like 2m.

I suppose, though, that the idea behind that particular clause was that it would be activated if he was doing sufficiently well at the top end of the Championship so as to warrant a permanent deal.

Not having done particularly well at Blackburn and dropping into League 1 would probably have somewhat damaged Leicester's negotiating position if the matter of a right-to-buy came up in their discussions with Ashton.

I doubt anything really changes the valuation that a club puts on a player. They will just claim that Blackburn are rubbish or Hirst doesn't suit their style of player or something else along those lines.

In the end, Leicester have all the power here.

Thinking we can get someone like him for 2m seems incredibly optimistic. It would be magnificent but I think some realism is required.

£5-6 million is a fair price. I'd pay that once promoted, especially given his potential. But I don't have £6 million or a football club.

More importantly, I think he would want to come here.

Given the amount of money that we are contributing towards his wages I don't think that large transfer fees are a worry either way. But we all love a bargain!

I wouldn't be averse to getting Hirst on another season-long loan deal, especially if Leicester stay up. Do we need to fork out millions to sign him if they're still in the Prem and 98% unlikely to utilise him?

Yes because he could be worth £20m+ if he performs well in the Championship, so £6m would be a sound investment.

He is good but for £5-6m I would hope to be getting better, £2m seems reasonable, considering he didn’t score in his first attempt at Championship football.

I just don't see him as a £6m player right now.

He's not performed at any level higher than the third tier and is still raw in some aspects of his game.

Nevertheless, he suits our system perfectly. £3m max would be my value on him in the current climate.

No chance. They do not want to keep him, hence why he was loaned to Blackburn with a buy clause based on appearances. The loan was only able to be broken because he wasn't getting picked. Suspect Ashton already has the deal in place.

Can you name this theoretically better player we can get for 5m who will fit superbly into our system?

Depends on what league Leicester are in.

Probably, but I can't really work out which way. A relegated Leicester will be under pressure to cut costs, and selling someone they don't see a future for, and who hasn't set the world alight at Championship level for a couple of million isn't a bad option. Equally, you would think they'll be more likely to want to take a look at him if they're in the Championship. Guess it depends on whether they can shift some of their bigger tickets items like Vardy and Ihenacho.

Agree with this, although I think Vardy is a busted flush and won't really have any value.

But didn't Leicester give him a five year contract? Funny way of not wanting to keep him...

If Leicester go down, which looks highly possible, I could see them keeping him in the Championship.

But only Ashton knows the loan terms.....

If he left them on a free, losing his wages I suspect would be valuable to them. It's a tricky one, do they hold him to see how he gets on in the Championship or will they aim higher with new signings? Are they likely to try and pick someone like Pukki up on a free too, who really knows

Assuming they are relegated of course

I think we will try and sign Hirst but I don't think he'll be the only striker we sign this summer

I’d say more like 5 million.

Not my money but I’d be doing everything I can to get his signature permanently. He’s absolutely class. Said it since day one.

Actually it is my money. Season tickets and flights to Brazil for away games doesn’t come cheap.

I Like Hirst, he's integral in our style of play, but he's 24 having had a bit of a scattered career, for him to reach the £20m valuation he would need to score 25 in the Championship at the very least.

Personally, I can't see him reaching that sort of financial figure, that's not to say we shouldn't try and buy him for next season.

But he wouldn't be one like Leif that has a huge ceiling.
