I get the impression that it's down to Luongo, as per the length of contract... Maybe doesn't want to be tied down for too long, for personal reasons... 1yr deal probably works out best for both parties atm... Either way, it's good to know he's here next season.. |  | | |

Makes a lot of sense.
If he doesn't feature next season or wasn't good enough (which I doubt) both parties can move on.
If he does well again and both parties are happy it can be extended again.
Given his age there's also not a huge amount of risk on the player trading side given he'd command a minimal fee if he was to potentially be sold next season whilst under a 2-3 year contract. | | | |

Great news!
Great for the continuity going into the next season with both our first-choice CMs. But his experience, composure and ability as an all-rounder also helps shore things up if and when Morsy is out. And probably gives us a lot more options with the type of CM who could potentially partner with him. |  |
