| Gimme on 20:07 - Jun 29 with 4318 views | Hipsterectomy | David Healy - was wanted by about 3 managers of ours. Linked with him every window. We eventually get him on loan and I always forget he ever played for us. Paul Anderson for the other. Had no expectations other than he'd be a squad player but he did well. | |

| Gimme on 20:42 - Jun 29 with 4153 views | Illinoisblue | 1. Slater. So much hype, so little end product (Albeit he had a lot of dross around him) 2. DJ Campbell. 10 goals in 17 games then seemed to vanish. | |

| Gimme on 20:48 - Jun 29 with 4119 views | Steve_M | 1. Stuart Slater. 2. Shefki Kuqi. I might have misinterpreted your part 2 here but I was underwhelmed by Shefki when we signed him. The first answer is unambiguous mind. [Post edited 29 Jun 2023 20:49]

| Gimme on 20:48 - Jun 29 with 4123 views | Coastalblue | Slater : Along with it seems many others bought into Lyall telling us what a 'special' player he was. In the end he was OK to be fair, but nowhere remotely near special. Tarricco : Makeweight in the Paz deal? After his first game when he was run ragged and looked like a rabbit in the headlights (Bolton?) I never expected to see him in a Town shirt again. He could be a new thread, worse debut from a quality signing. | |

It’s intriguing how many of us are still scarred by Slater, almost 30 years later. There was that televised wonder goal he scored for west ham that got us all excited. And at the time, us spending 750k was a big deal. It all sounded so promising… And in reality he wasn’t that terrible at all and we’ve hundreds of inferior players since him. But if you don’t deliver on hype, you’ll always be a disappointment. Even if that hype wasn’t of your own making. | |
