He's never really done it for me although — assuming we want two strikers — I wonder if he'd be the Hirst alternative.

Had a decent little spell for half a season with Forest, but aside from that never been one that has overly impressed me.

But attribute wise, he is 6 foot 3, mobile. Very similar to Hirst tbh.

Did wonder if we'd be interested in him, though would imagine he's more a potential to look at if other deals (Simms) don't come off.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

He seemed credible until he mentioned Colby Bishop interest cooling. Utter tosh…

It’s gone very quiet on the Hirst front, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it!

Stats wise, very underwhelming. I've only seen him a limited amount of time, but he seems like a target man who is not very quick in behind, which doesn't seem to suit our system either.

7 in 17 in the Champ for Forest?

Appreciate he's not probably a PL striker, but I think we could do a lot worse if we're being priced out for Hirst.

Highly rated by Cooper from his time through the England age group ranks. Not really hit his potential yet, but still young. Interesting. I've not been overly impressed from what I've seen but trust KM's judgement if there's genuine interest.

This would be a bit underwhelming at fist glance. However, I trust KMck judgement if true!

I liked the look of him during Forest’s promotion season, won’t get you 20 goals but plays the lone striker role well from what I can remember. Could be a nice addition to the squad depending on the fee, good age to improve also.

Yes, he fits the mould of the type of player we need in that role.

I'd be happy enough if he was one of two coming in, but if we're as serious as we appear to be then he's not our lead No9 in my view. Willing to be proved very wrong!

Not blisteringly quick but not slow.

Him, Hirst and Simms are all very similar types of player with very similar attributes. If we land two of those I will be very happy!

I don't think we're going to sign a 'lead no. 9'. Personally, I think we will sign two 9s that can rotate and play depending on the blocks of opposition defences.

Surridge + one other would be decent as a newly promoted Champ team IMO.

The way our team is built, we don't need a flashy 9, just a competent one to work the backline, retain possession and have the vision to combine with the 2x 10s.

Surridge is currently a PL striker. I don't think there's been any newly promoted clubs from League 1 do much better on the ambition front.

I would say Hirst and Surridge have similar attributes.

Simms is much more of an out-and-out target man. He's much slower than the other two, but arguably more clinical in front of goal.

Surridge/Hirst + Simms would futureproof our front line for the next few seasons.

All fair points. Whether Surridge can do all those things to the level we want is another question, I've just never really seen it myself with him but more than one manager has been happy to pay very good money for him so there's clearly something to work with.

Yes, it’s got mirrors of Ladapo last summer. More than happy for him to come in but not to be our sole point of reliance for the No9 role.

IIRC, Surridge has played out wide and behind the striker as well at both Bournemouth and Forest. So whilst he might be seen as a number 9 option, he could fit in elsewhere within our system if needed.

I’d hope this is a bargaining chip to get Hirst. Hopefully he and I dunno, Simms will be the duo. Both players will play every game it’s just that one will play 60 and the other 30 mins.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

The attention on Surridge would suggest that either Hirst or JJ are now not an option.

I suspect there are a number of enquiries progressing Ashton is shrewd and plays his cards close to his chest and goes for value. May turn up something left field.

I'm not convinced by this. I asked about him earlier in the summer and was told he wasn't on the list. That could have changed, of course, but would assume there would have been a few other names on the list and we're unlikely to have exhausted that by this point. Also it mentions Colby Bishop and that was played down as well.

Seen Surridge probably 10 times on TV and he's either been excellent or anonymous.

I guess the fact is that 7 goals in 17 before the Premier League last season is basically the exact same strike rate as Ellis Simms over his last half a season at our level.

Hirst scored 6 or 7 in about 20 odd games I think in League One and I'd love to sign him permanently. So Simms or Surridge (all three at similar young ages of 22-25) have done what Hirst did but in the division above.

If McKenna rates Surridge then that's good enough for me. As Phil has played it down somewhat then may well be nothing in it, but given Forest paid £2m, he's done well but not progressed, it seems the sort of signing we'd make.

Value for money, potential, young, proven over a small sample but not so much money it's a massive gamble. Would do for me.

Simms is nothing like Hirst. He won’t run all day, he hasn’t the engine. He is more an out and out striker. This guy is very underwhelming if true though.
