Whats the opinions on how good he is?

Whilst I watched both Hull games this year, I cant say I remember him standing out....not that I was looking out for him.

So really I have no idea. He did get in the championship team of the year so must be decent.

Hull fans seem to think he'll be their next player to go international

I posted the below on another thread. Ive watched a fair bit of Jacob Greaves and this one excites me a lot. I wouldn't have expected us to be the team that signs him this summer put it that way...

He is like a mix of both of them. He’s got the aerial ability of Burgess and the ability to bring the ball out from the back like Woolfie (super press resistant) and he is left footed which is always welcome and he is young. He’s just a brilliant modern centre back who can still do the dirty defensive side of the game very well I think he ranked really highly in tackles won and as I said, a monster in the air. Jarrad Branthwaite is a decent comp for him.

There is a reason Everton and West Ham have been interested in him. He’s a top top player who will imo be playing at the top of English football soon enough. It would be a superb signing.

Good to hear. We continue to target players at the start of their career which bodes well for improving and potentially selling on for a profit. Whilst centre backs arent sexy signings they are vital really if we are to do ok.

His ball winning skills, particularly the way he levers attackers off the ball at close quarters, and also his pace, footwork and ball carrying in the video above, leave me kind of very excited!

Looks like he has a goal or two in him too. Very excited about the prospect of getting him and Philogene over the line!

I didn’t notice him or Philogene this season. £30M+ for the pair seems nuts to me, but I suppose that’s the PL premium.

That’s probably on you rather than them - Greaves was their player of the year and in the team of the season, Philogene scored at better than 1 in 3 from the wing and was receiving plaudits from all around.

Both fit the bill though, don't they.

Greaves 23yrs ... established ball playing CB Champ player with ability to play higher. 170+ games

Philogene 22yrs ... very much in the Omari mould. Quality player at Champ level as we know but clearly has the ability to play at a higher level.

Both fit our system but more over the wider ethos of the Club. Seems very good business to me.

I remember Philogene at PR looking a handful. And i think he showboated and stood on the ball for a second.

What I meant was that I didn’t notice them when we played them. I don’t think many others did either. It’s gone now, but the PR match report from last season had Philogene on a 5. I can see his stats, but he’s not someone I noticed against us. The only threads I can find about them on here before this summer is one for Philogene last summer when Joe posted about him going to Hull.

I don’t see everyone on here of course, but a quick Google search suggests neither were names on people’s lips through last season.

on that logic Leeds fans would be calling Leif Davis horrendous after 2 poor games vs them. And we all know that's not the truth.

Tbh I think Greaves not being mentioned, as I stated above is because he, to me anyway, seemed unattainable. West Ham long term admirers as are Everton. Philogene had no chance to do anything vs us as PR, they rarely had the ball. He is one of the most highly rated young wingers in the country.

Two of our best performances of the season though.

Very exciting signing this, a very good defender and so much room to improve under KM.

Sad to see a number of people laying into Woolfie though (in the comments section) before he’s even kicked a ball. He proved most doubters wrong in L1 and Championship, so hopefully he can do the same in the PL. I suspect KM sees Wolfie paired with Greaves - none of our other CBs are anywhere near ad good on the ball.

Things that struck me watching that reel (the destructive side - winning headers / tackles are pretty self evident)

Excellent touch and technique; really comfortable keeping possession (as you noted, particularly carrying the ball out of defence)

Not enough examples to get a feel for his range of passing (something that our current leftie doesn't get enough credit for - Burgess plays some great cross field balls to Burns, and the one that arcs down the line for Davis).

Does seem to like to step out of defence to make an interception too, which is fantastic when it works...when it doesn't can be a bit of a car crash so will have to bear that in mind dealing with quicker / trickier players in the Prem.

Needs the telephone number of Wes Burns's barber.

I’ll be really happy if we get it over the line.
Greaves looks to me like he could be a future England international in the same way Maguire did when he was at Hull.

I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a club much bigger than us take a punt on him over the summer.

I feel a bit for Burgess who was fantastic last season but maybe Greaves will push him on to develop his game further.
