I think we are good enough, but choose not to. There was no hesitation in piling the pressure on and bossing it when we needed an equaliser.
Southgate’s biggest problem is he suffers from an overdose of respect. He’s too humble imo. Go out there and be a nasty sod and not let anyone affect our game and we’d probably be fine. |  |

I don’t get this narrative. By virtue of being in semi finals and finals we’ve had to play some ‘good’ teams. You can’t be dreadful to make it that deep into knockout tournaments.
Ultimately you can only beat who is in front of you .. and the history books will remember where we finished rather than how we played.

Croatia were smashed in the final by France and Italy failed to even make the World Cup afterwards, so you're not far out really. Quite incredible the teams we've played in Gareth's knockouts compared to earlier tournaments, when genuine contenders habitually shepherded us home at L16 or QF stage. Remember Spain pummelling Italy in the last Euros in all but scoreline, which then gave us our chance to sadly choke at Wembley.
Still, when you have the individual brilliance we do 'get out of jail' cards are always possible, as we've seen twice already. Long may it continue (just not with Gareth please). | | | |

maybe not, though thats determined by your seeding for tournaments based on your qualification record, whereas previous England managers never had that luxury.
Yes its absolutely tipped in what youd consider the "top teams" of Europe, but does it matter at the end of the day ? if England muck up qualification they dont get seeded top of the group with the other top seeds and then dont get pulled into one side or the other of the draw.
Southgate already had the record of furthest in tournaments by an England manager before this game, this just extended it.

I too think that Southgate is a good manager for England, but everyone has a shelf life, I feel Gareth is very much towards the end of his in that role. I wouldn't be shocked if Southgate is offered another role with the FA when his time comes, I am not sure I expect to see him as a club manager. | |

Not mine, but then I think he's a good manager. If you look at all the teams in these Euros, it has generally been quite poor with the exception of a few lower ranked teams.
