Obviously not a great result. But did we play well?

Delap?

RIP Sir Bobby

It was a typical friendly tbh

Mixed sides either half

Harness had a cameo on the right and did OK
Chappers played some nice quick passes
Taylor looks knackered after 90 minutes. Should have scored in the game too

We lack depth that's really obvious already. So new signings are needed sooner rather than later

Result doesn't matter at all. It was a great game to have. Fortuna were able to play exactly how some prem sides do. Which will only help us.

Harness had a Cameo? He played about 60 minutes.

New players knew the system - was expecting Muric to pop up in their box and score though at any point.

Really need some more through the door and Ladapo back to League One though.

Tanaka was standout player - Harness did well when he came on.

Watched the second half Fortuna looked better side, though we had our moments.

The only Muff in Town.

We dominated the game without creating a huge amount. Fortuna capitalised on defensive lapses against the run of play.

Muric is a Neuer wannabe. At one point he was in possession in the opposition half. One good save too.

Johnson looks athletic but didn’t offer much. Played it safe every time. Positioning was suspect for the Fortuna second. Hope he is still finding his feet.

Greaves looks good. Very assured. Pick of the new signings on that showing.

Delap scrapped well and won the ball back a few times. Didn’t show much on the ball and messed up a couple of half chances.

Harness was my MOTM. Took his goal well. A couple of other nice crosses. Our most effective attacking play came through him. Morsy, Hirst and greaves also good.

We are missing our spark players like Hutchinson and Broadhead. Nobody did badly but it felt a bit workmanlike without them.

Didn't know there was a timing definition for cameo. Apologies.

Yeah, a 'cameo' in regards football, would just be a few minutes.

Oh. I just meant cameo as he came on and played a position he doesn't normally play.

We really didn't dominate.
We were chasing them a lot.
Couldn't hold the ball up top.

Thought we was poor although I understand Not up to speed.
Outfield players only Morsy Chaplin and Harness in bursts did OK in my view. I thought Johnson played well last week but was out of position like Clarke was last season for both goals vast improvement required on the 17th of August.

Yes, but you could consider 60 minutes a cameo in the span of a whole season...

I don't think we can read too much into that match. There was some good passing phases, but in general it was very disjointed. Just remember how much potential, but with no end result Hutchinson had last preseason. It was just a chance to get the players out there and building new relationships.

Just to add to the comments above, i thought Barbrook looked pretty handy when he came on.

Just a response to the idea we dominated.

Chaplin was class!

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

On Johnson..

Off the ball you could see he had no help from luongo or morsy on occasions with runners.
Esp 2nd half, they got space on the left as Burgess tucked over, wolfy then moved to cover the man who had ran past our cms, johnson then had to tuck in to mark the man wolfy lost which then left a free man on the far side.

Cm drop and allow wolfy to mark the correct player then johnson wasn't out of position and stops the wide player.

This post is how I saw it. Goalie: he’s a definite upgrade, even if he does look like a stick of rock in that awful keeper kit.

Johnson: he’ll be fine but looks exposed as everyone does on that side by the way we play

Greaves: good player

Delap: didn’t impress me. But then I’m the bloke who’d have returned Hutchinson to Chelsea few games in.

Don’t know about Barbrook, but I thought he looked lively.

Of the usuals, Harness did well. Morsy - service as normal. Hirst - willing runner. Taylor - worried about him.

Overall, a pre-season friendly. Good quality opposition will do us no harm. We were disjointed but are work in progress so as far as I’m concerned, an interesting afternoon - all good.

I think we've effectively signed a 60k a week Janoi.
Not written him off and maybe there will be a massive improvement working under McKenna rather than Moyes but based on that showing he's not particularly comfortable on the ball or going forward, his first touch is very square which then limits where he can play it.

Our best players looked to be the ones who were at the club last season, which is a bit of a concern.

However, based on just today, Harness is our best player, so who knows!

I make Frimmers right. Our right backs are always going to be a target for criticism because of the way we play. They’re effectively fulfilling a right centre back role because leif is bombing forward meaning that they’re exposed to the oppositions overlap, particularly when we don’t have burns : Hutchinson tracking back at speed. Clarke was constantly being slated last season for being ‘out of position’ but they play exactly where McKenna wants them to and the way we play just means they’re exposed. It’s the negative side of the way that we play

We showed our strengths and weaknesses in the game.

Attacking wise, as you would expect we look dangerous, defensively, we looked vulnerable, both in transition, and during our press, at times Fortuna cut through the press very slickly.

Have to be cautious of that in the PL, players are a lot better at being pressed and playing through it.

Have to be cautious in transition as well, mistakes will be punished in the PL.

Overall really enjoyable game though for a friendly, both sides had good moments.

Its not popular. But the luongo morsy partnership Is our weak point off the ball and that's why it's so important t we get a partner for Morsy. Or even that 2 to replace both. As harsh and hard that is to take.. we are prem now and we can't be ripped apart with Ease anytime we lose the ball in the final third.

It's hard enough playing with a high fullback in davis but then we need to ensure they can't just pass around us and run past our midfielders easily to get the overrun on the opposite side.

If we are to use both. One has to drop and stay. Imo.
