Something just doesn't add up with this one. Will be interesting to see what the deal was and the situation is with Broja himself.

He'll probably play a full 90 in a fortnight.

Seems to be the case, but it just states for Everton is an "option" so technically don't need to buy at the end. If that is the case, why was the deal different for us? If we didn't need to technically buy if, then surly the risk is much lower.

Good he can go down with them. He clearly didn't want to be here and was just using us to try and get a 'better' club.

Highly probable tbh. As we just see with Nelson.

I think if you negotiate too hard you
Can end up butting heads, not suggesting this has happened here but everton might have benefitted from our tough stance

Walked away from that to get Nelson…that failed meanwhile the other target Édouard signed for Leicester and Latte wasn’t available…?

I don't believe Édouard was ever a target. Nelson talks broke down, they then moved on to talk to Fulham, who evidently got it over the line - or near enough over the line to mae the deadline - very quickly.

Boro I think made it clear Latte Lath wasn't available, to him as much as anyone else.

If it was only an option and not an obligation then what did we have to lose by signing him injured? Did Chelsea call our bluff?

Given he was poor at Fulham last season, we might benefit and Everton might be lumbered with a bad deal. Time will tell.

One to revisit in January maybe, depending on circumstances.

Do you think we agreed for Harness to go because Nelson was coming or would he have gone anyway?

Ah interesting, so we couldn't strike an agreement with Arsenal, rather than it being Nelson's choice?

What I don't think we know in the Everton deal is wages. With our deal weren't Chelsea paying the wages so the obligation may have been a way to recoup some of the wages money. Maybe Everton are paying a proportion of the wages and that meant CFC were happy to give them an option at the end, so in essence it could be seen as a straight season loan if Everton see this as cover for the coming season only.

Why did we peruse a dud deal then ? Seems odd. Seemed obvious to us fans with the info we had this was a pointless deal.

I assume it was felt he was better than the other options. Obviously the short-term injury made it a less attractive prospect but long-term he was someone I presume they felt was better than anyone else they might get in. However, I do agree, we did seem to spend too long on it.

I'm surprised we didn't go for latte. He seemed keen according to local journos.

a niche perspective

I think you reported it as talks with the player were the cause of the breakdown not talks with Arsenal? We must have agreed payment of wages etc with Arsenal to be able to talk to Nelson, so something the player didn't like the sound of?

Thanks. Sounds like it was Nelson's choice. I think they are slightly more stretched for wingers than we are so perhaps he saw more opprotunities to start with them.

Agreed read Ornstein's tweets fully now and defo sounds like Nelson decided the project was not for him. I think we'd have known that early enough we could have gone back to CFC if we wanted but suspect we had already walked away by then as well.

KM must really have wanted him.

I gather that Nelson's a winger, so wouldn't have been as important a target to us as Broja?

Anyway, I'm glad this window's over & we can all get back to focussing on actual football

All those stickies & keeping up must have taken it out of you Phil, hope you're getting some much-needed beauty sleep now ;)

It's really odd for a player to go from potentially playing KM's style of football to playing for Dyche.
There are also a lot of questions around financial discipline, Everton have a bad track record of overpaying and Everton were probably more desperate than us.
We didn't really need Nelson, so we will see how we go. Hopefully Hirst will be back soon and we can look at our options in January.
