Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 23:29 - Aug 30 by GlasgowBlue | If it was only an option and not an obligation then what did we have to lose by signing him injured? Did Chelsea call our bluff? |
Reading between the lines, Ashton has tried to play hardball with Chelsea and has come away from it the loser. To spend SO much time on that deal and not get it over the line is very disappointing, especially as no plan B was seemingly in place as a back up. Oh well, lets just pray Delap stays fit otherwise we are royally screwed. [Post edited 31 Aug 2024 7:01]

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 07:12 - Aug 31 with 2163 views | Facefacts | Wonder if he'll be allowed go off and play for Albania in the next Int. Break. They won't be giving him a medical. So many unknowns but we look like we've been done over. So much time and effort spent on this only for a rival to scoop him up. I'm not so bothered about losing a player who failed a medical but he might keep them up. Hugely significant and frustrating day for this club. Hope we do get more insight into what happened with this from Mark Ashton.

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 23:24 - Aug 30 by itfckenty | Highly probable tbh. As we just see with Nelson. |
Nelson likely mates with Smith Rowe plus the lure of London so a little different.
Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 07:42 - Aug 31 with 2079 views | cressi | Everton got done in a evening we spent weeks mucking about. Only thing I will say it is personal opinion once Broja failed the medical we should have walked away we need to get better at looking at players abroad I do understand with that network 3 yrs ago we wasn't looking at players anywhere almost.

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 23:28 - Aug 30 by PhilTWTD | I don't believe Édouard was ever a target. Nelson talks broke down, they then moved on to talk to Fulham, who evidently got it over the line - or near enough over the line to mae the deadline - very quickly. |
The word is Nelson is on over a hundred thousand a week a week May be poppy cock but st that money good bye.

Well Nketiah is on £100k plus a week, so I'm sure Nelson is the same. From the limited info I was told this morning it was more about the fact as it's a loan he preferred to stay in London, doesn't even have to move house.

I don't have any info but as a guess.. Chelsea won't let us talk to him/have medical until the fee was agreed. We agreed a loan (with specific costs) and an obligation to buy (based on specifics). Medical then throws up a problem. Town quite correctly didn't want to put the club in a bad position if the injury was longterm. Club tried to renegotiate, but Chelsea were stubborn and said no, these are the terms that were not moving. We refuse, and it breaks down. Everton come in and offer something different and Chelsea decide that's OK for Everton, even if the deal is financially less than ours. Maybe completely wrong, but I know many Chelsea fans who are confused by the owners as many things they do don't make sense. So it wouldn't surprise me. Had something similar with a house once. Was buying it and the survey highlighted a major problem, so we reduced our original offer. Owner refused it, said we offered X and that is what he wanted, so we dropped out of the deal. 2 months later he sells the house for less than the reduced price we had offered - sometimes stubborn people do strange things

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 00:33 - Aug 31 by pointofblue | Thanks. Sounds like it was Nelson's choice. I think they are slightly more stretched for wingers than we are so perhaps he saw more opprotunities to start with them. |
It's probably also they are an established prem side and he won't have to leave London.

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 01:47 - Aug 31 by Ryorry | KM must really have wanted him. I gather that Nelson's a winger, so wouldn't have been as important a target to us as Broja? Anyway, I'm glad this window's over & we can all get back to focussing on actual football All those stickies & keeping up must have taken it out of you Phil, hope you're getting some much-needed beauty sleep now ;) |
No, Nelson not as important, I would assume. Am guessing he became available and would have added to our overall attacking strength and presume it was an alternative to a striker.

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 00:33 - Aug 31 by berkstractorboy | I think you reported it as talks with the player were the cause of the breakdown not talks with Arsenal? We must have agreed payment of wages etc with Arsenal to be able to talk to Nelson, so something the player didn't like the sound of? |
Am guessing so, assume that side of it had been agreed. Wonder, in a purely speculative manner, whether he looked at the number of players who play a similar role and wondered how much football he might get here.

Broja to Everton. (n/t) on 23:57 - Aug 30 by SitfcB | One to revisit in January maybe, depending on circumstances. Do you think we agreed for Harness to go because Nelson was coming or would he have gone anyway? |
I think he would have gone anyway. Was expecting it and someone else would have had to go.

I think Nelson would have been a weird one- we don’t need any more players in the position he would be playing, can’t imagine he would have been a regular starter either so if I was the players why would I want to go to a club as an impact sub which is essentially what McKenna likes. Broja I am glad we haven’t got him as he is injured, no doubt about that, he may have gone to Everton but that risk is on them and the injury he has is serious with a massive change of re ocurrence and even in some cases career ending if rushed. Too much money to risk on something like that. We have a very capable team now with the impact suns we need, a bit light on a number 9 but we are not relying on goals from that position but to integrate others around them which delap is looking amazing at doing and we know hirst can do brilliantly for us also. Szmods can play that role if needs be. I love the fact we have options of Clarke, Ogbene, Hutchinson, burns, szmodics if needs be as wing options - it’s a dream come true the fire power we now have Super happy and can’t wait to see the team fully integrated and playing the way I think they can perform

The moment Broja is fit Everton start paying the salary. In full? Because, if so, that's probably where it fell down with us. Pretty sure reports stated Chelsea were picking up a percentage of his salary throughout the loan with us.
