One of the very few good things about this latest leadership contest is we won't have to listen to the booming fruity tones of Graham Brady announcing the winner as he foists yet another hopless right wing basket-case onto us

He's a shameless charlatan. It's amazing what people will say in order to be elected leader of their party.

Wasnt he the bloke who fast tracked a tory donors planning application so it got through just in time to avoid legislation that would have cost said donor millions of pounds in tax?

They lie and say whatever it takes to get elected. They have no principles or politics other than "i want to be in charge". If this is a surprise to anyone they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Even if you hate Farage, you know what he stands for. With the Tories and Labour, you have no idea what you are going to get, but its a pretty good bet right now it is somewhere along the lines of socialism or communism respectively, irrespective of what they say.

No need to worry about them. They’ll be infighting for years and have literally nothing to offer. After 14 years of vindictive, bogus ideology based destruction it’ll take a couple of generations and the current clowns cleared away for them to become viable. My guess? 15 to 20 years.

I watched the BBC Sunday programme. I had to laugh. Penny Mordant was talking about public service - as if any of the tories are interested in that. The never have been and on the basis they’re only interested in the 1% richest in this country, never will.

If they want to attract votes, they should put Sooty in charge. But then he’d never be stupid enough to take the job.

Labour will be on the lines of communism? And the tories "socialism"?

As long as it’s it’s something along the lines of an insurance based system that all of out progressive European neighbours use, which delivers better outcomes on things like cancer and heart disease, and not the US system which no other country in the world uses, then I’m all for it.

Farage stands for one thing and one this only ........ himself

We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you Farage is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in himself and has two themes ... making you afraid, and telling you who's to blame. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how Farage wins elections. You gather a group of middle age, middle class, middle income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family, and values and character, and you tell them who's to blame for their lot in life.

Yes We've got serious problems, and we need serious people, not Nigel "Blame the Foreigner to make me more money Farage'

I met a friend from Paris last week. Now that he is retired, I asked him if he would ever contemplate returning to the UK. He gave the excellence of French system, in contrast to state of the NHS, as his reason for not doing so especially with his advancing years.

How is it a good bet when you have no idea what you're going to get? A much safer bet would be that you have no idea what socialism of communism even are.

Come on, be fair.

Labour's manifesto was headlined "Seizing the Means of Production".

And there was paragraph after paragraph in the Tory literature about re-nationalisation.

That's right isn't it?

My concern is Cameron's version of the Conservatives would be preferable to Reform. At least they'd be more likely to take votes off the latter. At this stage I think the country is moving towards a Reform government in 2029 - we need the Tories to be strong enough to take away enough votes to stop that.

An insurance based system that excludes any/all conditions as soon as they become apparent; and puts premiums up to unaffordable levels for all but the healthy & wealthy - no thanks.

Reform is just a sad protest movement of disenchanted ostriches. They won’t last. If the remains of the Tories choose to double down on what got them to the position they’re in and the country is in they’ll never be elected in anyone alive now’s lifetime. They’re done.

Hopefully, the saner ones will one day form an effective opposition and potential alternative but that won’t be for many years.
