It’s men against boys. 22:21 - Dec 3 with 3265 views | textbackup | Huge athletes, streetwise, quality. Palace, Everton etc. We are a hell of a way off them teams. The distance between one another tonight was so sht. Delap trying to fight against 2/3 shipping containers for scraps. We could play for 2 weeks like that and not get a shot in. Really disappointing

It’s men against boys. on 22:44 - Dec 3 with 3134 views | Dubtractor | This is why I had mixed feelings about promotion. Obviously loved it for the moment, and wouldn't change it at all, but the premier league is ridiculous. At the top you've got the most technical players, who we can't compete with, and the bottom end is pure athleticism, which we also can't compete with. Almost every player is built like a brick sh1thouse, and quick too.

It’s men against boys. on 23:08 - Dec 3 with 3015 views | Vegtablue | Summed up my thoughts perfectly. The defensively minded sides have dominated us without possession in the main. I'm almost looking forward to the run of big teams because we may be afforded some space again. I didn't hear much belief around me tonight either to be honest, was a disheartening night.
It’s men against boys. on 23:19 - Dec 3 with 2879 views | ITFC_84 | Bang on. Premier league teams like Everton, Forest, Palace look HUGE compared to us. Multiple 6ft 3” CMs, CDMs, CBs, STs that must look at our little Morsy, Hutch and Chappers and have a little chuckle. Their fit, strong, athletic and ultimately streetwise. We are getting bullied in this league.
It’s men against boys. on 23:27 - Dec 3 with 2838 views | squiz | As all promoted teams went down last season, it means every other team in the prem is on at least their 3rd season in the league. They've had a minimum of 5 transfer windows and £100m plus to spend each season and it shows. Its a big ask.
It’s men against boys. on 23:27 - Dec 3 with 2836 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Yep. When we receive the ball deep in our half and need to play out, our smaller technical players are just mullered by a bunch of absolute tanks. The amount of 50/50s and battles palace came out on the right side of tonight was frightening.

The concerning thing was even Delap was beaten very easily for the most part.

He was yep, as he Was at Forest by their 2 juggernauts. But it's a tough gig, and as excellent as he is, he still only a kid. He also looks dead on his feet. [Post edited 3 Dec 2024 23:33]

It’s men against boys. on 23:47 - Dec 3 with 2672 views | LankHenners | Yeah, these sorts of games are always going to be really tough for us. It's nobody's fault really and therefore hard to be too critical but we're just simply not good enough to be able to deal with teams that are able to suffocate space and cover ground much more quickly than we are. Was almost frightening how, even when we were able to move the ball about more sharply and get an attack going, they were able to race back into a defensive shape so fast that we had no choice but to go backwards and start again. Said on another thread we need to find a way to be braver and more positive in games like this. Cajuste was good at it and no surprise a lot of our more promising moves started from him turning someone in midfield or moving the ball up the pitch quickly but he's still not fully fit and looks knackered after an hour.

Eze walked to take a corner, and even from the upper tier, he looked far bigger/wider than many of our players

So, as we can’t wave a magic wand and grow our players into brick shoothouses by Sunday, we need to concentrate on what we could achieve - be cannier, try to get more set pieces esp corners on the left where we have the advantage of Leif’s art? (I’m sure KM would never have thought of that )

It’s men against boys. on 01:20 - Dec 5 with 1752 views | Denny32 | Barcelona did not have juggernauts of players..they were technically gifted obviously and well able to pass the ball and get oy away quickly to other players before the opposition was breathing down their necks..look how well they did ..I think mckenna may be getting in to a tunnel vision type of team he wants and still thinks he can over come opposition with..in other countries where technical ability is priority than brawn ..we probably could fare better..but in the Premier ship..you need to have everything. Experience..technical ability and brawn ..sadly its where we are lacking to compete with most teams..it will more than likely Cost us ..only thing in our favour is that the big players carrying around that huge bulk all season may start to tire come the last quarter of the season and with our lightness and agility and athleticism..we may get through their defence better..

Palace held a shape and pressed in ways that neither of those teams did. They stifled us very effectively. Not just about playing better.

They didn't need to paint the Mona Lisa. Their plan was to be compact, let us have the ball, tire ourselves with endless possession and build up play. Then steal a goal on the hour through countering one of our transitions. After the goal, let us have the ball again and try to defend with two banks of narrow players. We literally saw the same game twice in 4 days. We don't have the quality or pace to overwhelm teams or the physicality to outcompete. Our set pieces are almost pointless. What's the point the putting ball into Morsy, Chaplin, Burns and Hutchinson when oppositions have 7 players over 6ft.

Bernardo Silva Phil Foden Kevin de Bruyne I wouldnt even class John Stones as a 'man mountain' but they've won a few PL titles and I would have all here at Town. You don't have to be massive to be successful in football I wonder if Everton, Forest CP players all chuckle at 'little' Silva, Foden etc when they banged in the 3rd, 4th etc goal against them

They might not be the most technical of teams but for organisation and desire to turn the ball over, we haven’t come across many better teams. Every time we played the ball beyond our third, they had two or three players around the player in possession, closing down angles and making it difficult to play forward at the very least, or swarming in to win the ball. Same with Forest , they are teams that make their physical presence felt at every possible opportunity.

Watching different parts of various games last night, the speed at which some of these pass the ball is vastly different to some of ours, let alone the speed of players. What we classed as quick phases of play in the champ are slow motion compared to some of the 1-2 passes that you see in the prem. That's the main reason we didn't get anywhere against palace, they set up well, but the way to get round that is some very quick movement, quick 1-2 passing, overlaps, underlaps, alot lot more than we did.

Kevin de Bruyne was surprisingly big when I saw him at City...don't be fooled. But then you mention Foden and Silva and say you don't have to be massive.....but they're literally some of the best technical players in the world....which does kind of negate being Conor Chaplin (no offence Conor lol!)

Firstly, stones is massive Secondly, Chaplin and burns aren’t Foden 😂
