The FA cup is important in 2025 because... 07:50 - Jan 12 with 4617 viewsRIPbobby

1. It gives the reserve players a chance to play in a stadium with more than 200 people watching.
2. It gives people who don't have a season ticket more of a chance to see some football.

I think a cup run would be a massive distraction from our primary objective given our injuries.

It's worth remembering staying in the prem is worth £150m or whatever. The FA cup is basically immaterial financially for a prem team.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

You’re speaking like a shareholder and not a fan.

Also how is playing more football a distraction from playing football?

The F.A.Cup always has and always will be important to fans. Its just that most clubs in the early rounds don't see it that way.

Speaking as someone who seen us lose 3-0 away at Hull for 20 years in the championship.

We are finally here. Let's do everything possible to stay and really build the club.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

But let’s also try and win a trophy.

We had no chance when we were losing 3-0 to Hull.

It’s more or less irrelevant. Last year we lost to non league opposition but most of us would consider that season to be a huge success.

This season it's entirely possible to fit 3 or 4 more matches in, keep building a winning feeling (that was so important in previous successful seasons), and maybe just maybe shoot for the stars: we'd all remember a Wembley visit and love to stay in the PL. They aren't mutually exclusive goals.

I totally get the need to prioritise the league but we have a 27 man squad for a reason. They need minutes and this is great opportunity to build fitness throughout the squad.

Let's hope we win, get drawn against another lower league outfit, win again and then we are talking about being involved in the 5th round in March and thats a possible dilemma re exposing first team players.

Until then, let's try and enjoy a decent cup run!

It's quite often mentioned that Town are one of a very small number of clubs that has never played at the new Wembley.

Am I right in thinking it's a 'grand total' of three appearances at Wembley (old or new) EVER? That must rank extremely low across the list of professional clubs.

The cups are only irrelevant when you are doing well (or badly) in the league.
Cups are a good chance to get injured players up to speed and bed in new signings.
I don't mind how we do in the cups, but it will start to get interesting if we win a couple of matches.

They don't even seem to be relevant even if you are doing well in the league, sadly. Brentford rested six players, and it would take a heart of stone not to laugh.

Ah yes, from a financialy point of view, all the big teams should just go out as its no benefit to them..............

However, from a fan (my) point of view, if we won the FA Cup and went down, that would still be great.........!

And if we won the cup, and qualified for europe, then Kieran would definitely stay.

Losing to Maidstone, in hindsight, was probably the best thing that could have happened to us last season.

Let's be honest, the FA Cup is worthless and pointless until you win it, and then we'll be singing songs about it for the next 30 years

So we can’t have a nice cup run when looking at promotion, or when we are trying to stay up.

Basically we need to be a sht mid table championship team again to really give it a go. But then we’d lose to non league teams in the 3rd round.

In their heart of hearts, Brentford probably realise they had no chance of winning the cup

At the start there were 8 clubs who could realistically win the cup, Arsenal are out so that leaves 7. Quite likely the 2 finalists will be amongst those 7

Everyone else is just making up the numbers
