The more I’ve thought about it, the more I think it completely messed the rhythm of the game to our benefit. All their energy went to him instead of trying to get back in the game. It nearly went on step too far and had us down to 10 but overall I it just added to my enjoyment of the game and entire Nunez saga since the summer. Now we can leave all that and Norwich in the rear view mirror. [Post edited 13 Apr 1:15]

Yep, said this after the game on the way out of the ground. Norwich lost their focus when he came on… it took 23 valuable minutes out of the game as their sole aim was to kick him, get him sent off and provoke a reaction.

Me too. Strange that KMK and DOS both referred to Nunez’ excellent temperament during the week. Then on Saturday à player who normally goes about his business quietly and efficiently suddenly becomes Ben Thatcher. Hmm

Dunno, another ref sends him off for that last foul and there'd have been no complaints, then we miss him for tomorrow and put ourselves under the pump for the last 15 min at Norwich. All great fun in the end, a sequence for the ages really, but a hell of a high wire act if any of it was meant! [Post edited 13 Apr 8:16]

However maybe there was a mind to make Norwich players lose focus. I'm in no doubt it wasnt the intention for Marcellino to commit so many fouls though!

Maybe, but watching it back they absolutely made the most of those 3 challenges. First one looks the worst but minimal contact, Darling charging in with the shove was a clear ploy to make it worse than it was. Second not even sure he touched him, third was also minimal contact and the delay in going to ground makes me think he knew exactly what he was doing.

No chance. KM’s not adverse to a fake injury to regroup, but he’d not risk potentially throwing a game to wind up the inbreds. It’s only through incompetent refereeing we got away with it.

Not sure it was incompetent reffing - felt he was really consistent throughout: Very low bar for what constituted a foul Fairly low bar for first yellow High bar for second yellow - there were players on both teams who could easily have received a second yellow (e.g Stacey's deliberate on Taylor when he was breaking away 2nd half) and would have received a yellow from him if they hadn't already been on one.

There's no way it was deliberate. That ref was so unpredictable and McKenna is far too measured in his approach to take that kind of risk. He brought Nunez on because Mehmeti was on a yellow and drifting out of the game a bit and Nunez is the like for like replacement. If he'd not got the early yellow and their players losing their heads it'd probably have turned into a quietly effective cameo from him.

A bit of both I reckon. There's no way McKenna wouldn't have known what was coming by putting him on, so I think that bit was in the plan. The downside was it gave their crowd something to get fired up for when they were quiet, but Mehmeti was on a yellow and that's a change McKenna makes in any game so arguably why not Saturday. I doubt he was impressed with Nunez head loss though, he was literally saying 'no more tackles' and Nunez nodding, then he went in late on Cordoba and probably could / should've got a 2nd. I think the plan was fine, Nunez execution of it wasn't and McKenna does the right thing hooking him, as much for tomorrow as for Saturday. No harm done though.

I suspect it was Cordoba's exaggerated dive that saved Nunez there, that and the knowledge that Norwich players were desperate for Nunez to get sent off. No referee wants players to make his decisions for him.

It was one of the greatest cameo performances ever. Don't think it was planned but given the circumstances the outcome was fairly obvious. The 20 odd minutes flow by, scum were completely disrupted and on top of that he set up a wonderful chance to finish the game Fecking legend

It was also top banter. I had loads of friends commenting on it, most of my mates who support other clubs were watching that game over the Arsenal one, and reckoned it looked heated. In the moment I was probably too much of a wreck to enjoy it for what it was, but good for a neutral. Shame it wasn't on ITV like the home game.

This played a massive part I think. From the moment Darling went flying in after a fairly nothing challenge, it was obvious they were trying too hard.

Yeah agreed. In real time I thought he'd taken a dive to try and get him a second yellow from what was very little contact. The replay showed it should really have been a booking. If he'd not been such a dick about it, Nunez might have walked.
