Lighten the mood, all time favourite player and why

Mine - Terry Butcher grew up watching a rock in defence and a real leader, love hearing the stories of old players who played with him giving examples of his leadership

Cole Skuse. Reinvented the sweeper position and gave my early 30's as much meaning as becoming a Father. When he goes we shall feel what Barca fans are about to feel as the little tax-free Argentinian departs for Citeh.

What have you done, you terrorist?

My favourite ever Town player is Micky Stockwell. He was a mainstay of the side for my first decade as a Town fan and he was always my favourite player back then. Quality operator, very underrated as a footballer. Honourable mentions to Taricco, Pablo and Reuser.

Terry Butcher was the one that evoked the most emotion for me when he left.

Special mention for Phil Whelan, that goal at Southend...

Taricco, Pablo and Reuser, plus Jim, are the players that come to mind for me.

Are they remotely near to our greatest players? Of course not, but they are players that entertained, that were part of of our best teams of recent years.

Romeo Zondervan. We didn't really buy players in those post-Pioneer Stand days, so his arrival was hugely exciting to this 12-year-old. He immediately played an important part in the amazing 1984 relegation escape and was pure class in midfield for the next eight years, a shining light in the Duncan era. And his moustache was fab.

It’s been interesting thinking about this... and it’s made me realise my favourite Town player is a continuum of players who give their everything consistently and have the ability to grab a game and win that game for Town:

Thijsen
Zondervan
Stockwell
Magilton....

And then it stops as frankly under Evans, we have lacked the players of character to dominate consistently

Perhaps Downes shows some of that hunger!! Let’s hope he stays and makes that difference

Paul Mariner. Made an impression on me as a young lad as Town's leading striker, not been surpassed since.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Jon Stead for no reason other than him being our starting striker when I first started watching, so he's one of the main reasons I got into football, his goal at Loftus Road in 2009 was the moment I started calling myself an Ipswich fan. He was the name I'd look for first on the team sheet.
All around good Championship striker who I feel like gets a bit forgotten compared to the likes of Walters and Lee who we had at a similar time.

Honorable mentions go to David McGoldrick and Tyrone Mings.

Has to be John Wark, absolute class act.

Another who excited me more than most, Marcus Stewart...a joy to watch.

Trevor Whymark.
Unsung hero. Quality player who never let us down and helped make Paul Mariner the player he was.

Kevin Beattie. No nonsense defender who could play a bit. Without injuries, would have played 100 games for England. A true club legend. We have quite a list from to choose from, unlike the carrot crunchers up the road.

John Wark, I missed his glory years.

But I used to go round his house as a kid, and what a thoroughly down to earth guy he was.

Other than that I would say Matt Holland, David Johnson Mk2 and Stewie.

Martijn Reuser.

Such quality on the ball - was underused in his time here.

When we got a free kick within 30 years you knew he would hit the target and he scored some great goals.

I remember him shooting from a freekick at Southampton 40 plus yards out right by the touchline. It sailed over Jones in the Southampton goal only to cannon back off the crossbar. If that had gone in it would be talked about as one of the great PL goals.

I always liked Craig Forrest. He may not go down as our greatest goalkeeper but I enjoyed watching him play, he made some spectacularly brilliant saves. His goal kicking was God awful though.
