The talent pool seems very thin on the ground for the Labour Party. If Starmer thinks promoting Rachel Reeves is going to help contribute towards winning back voter confidence any time soon, then he's wrong in my opinion. The Labour Party does seem rather thin on the ground on the charisma stakes though. Â They are not exactly dripping with talent on the Shadow Bench from what I can see. Â I know the Tories aren't either but for whatever reason (furlough and the vaccine rollout spring to mind) they have Labour in their rear-view mirror right now. Â
Having some extra competence and charisma up front wouldn't hurt Labour's cause at present. Â They seem a rather blunt instrument (a bit like ITFC's strike force this season!) unable to make a political dent. Â Just rearranging the same tired faces into a different formation isn't going to be enough. Â
Starmer just hasn't quite cut through as yet for whatever reason.  Not sure he ever will but in fairness to him, he's not been handed an easy task by any means.  I just don't see anybody outstanding behind him.  I guess if there were they'd be in front of him already!  Nobody on his front bench (or behind) is delivering him any juicy assists into his Parliamentary despatch box for him to get on the end of! | |

Osborne and Cameron's intent was that it would be local councils who took the blame for 'austerity', it works even better if voters blame backbench Labour MPs.
It's quite telling though that two relatively thoughtful members of the public are very clear about what they think isn't working but don;t understand the cause.
I do wonder how much the decline of local media, as much as it's replacement by Facebook, is a cause here. | |

They also talked about how there was no foodbanks when Labour in charge, and now there are 8 like it is a good thing.
They equate voting for Labour, and things getting worse, without the understanding that just because they voted for them it doesn't mean they have been in power.
How do you get a message through to people like that, people coherent enough to try and argue a point on TV and do so relatively cogently? They just have missed the point by so far |  |
