Little mention for Hawkins last night 12:51 - Dec 16 with 2906 views | MrTown | Thought he was best player for us, a real real handful. A good target man, actually wins headers, his chest game is exceptional. Fgs Lambert give him some support up there and put a partner with him. Hit him early, and play in opposing thirds.

Little mention for Hawkins last night on 13:06 - Dec 16 with 2849 views | Yallop | We all see it different ways but I thought he was poor especially first half. Lost most headers. Was jumping too early and berating himself. A couple of good moments chest / a flick on. He's not the answer for me. I'd rather see Norwood and Jackson as a pair.

Little mention for Hawkins last night on 13:09 - Dec 16 with 2831 views | Garv | He did well, but a lot of the play was aimless when we went long, and we saw mistakes going long like we did for the goal. We do need players to be braver going forward when on the ball - Judge is often guilty of it because he doesn't seem to believe he has the legs to get past people, so ends up going backwards - but generally first half we had good patient possession, some of which led to good openings. I couldn't believe the moaning and groaning at footballers passing the ball.

Little mention for Hawkins last night on 13:12 - Dec 16 with 2817 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I must be watching a different game, he just sort of lets the ball hit his chest, more time the ball went to somebody wearing yellow. If we are going to play a long ball game more boring then the one Mick got criticised for then he is ideal, but if we want to see half decent football. He isn't the answer

Half decent football clearly isn't fashionable right now, we want 4-4-2 and to go direct!

He’s an ok squad man at this level but no more. He doesn’t look like he has a goal in him which does put pressure on others to score the goals. I think that he offers more than Drinan so he’s probably our best option at the moment.

Sadly right now it feels like we need a bit of a "comfort blanket" to start facing forwards...

Drinan has shown movement and has brought others into play, and that will only improve with more time [Post edited 16 Dec 2020 14:09]

Drinan has to be a better option, although right now Hawkins is marginally more effective. Obviously he has to have people around him to pick up the ball when he does win it, or ,rather more rarely, actually get it under control. What I would love to see are midfielders prepared to run beyond him. I am thinking that Bishop is the only one in the squad who would do this. Neither Hawkins nor Drinan will ever be a Whymark though!

Yeah - tho although Whymark first played at 18, he didn't burst fully formed onto the scene. Drinan had the shirt until he was injured, and it's typical management indecisiveness that, when he is fit, pairs him with Hawkins, then next time goes with Hawkins, whose good hold-up play is negated by his heavy touch. I'd like to see how good Drinan might become with the right set-up, but that's asking the moon at the moment.

Little mention for Hawkins last night on 14:49 - Dec 16 with 2560 views | DinDjarin | He made the winner for Huws by first clearing 2 defenders out the way to allow the shot and then blocking the keeper for the follow up header. Also won the initial header for the first goal. We are better with him in the team and no idea why he has not been playing lately.

It's because the manager is an incompetent fraud.

Little mention for Hawkins last night on 15:08 - Dec 16 with 2525 views | geg1992 | Although not the most technically gifted, his sheer presence is enough to open up other areas of the pitch. It's the reason why Edwards for example, was able to get into scoring opportunities. I can't see him scoring many goals, but he will create goals for others and certainly gives the opposition something to worry about.

'12 passes around the back then hoof it' is an interesting definition of 'good' football.

You are correct, mainly because it is very difficult to score whilst sat on the bench. However, give both the same pitch time, Drinan would outscore Hawkins no doubt. That doesn't make him a better player but Drinan gets in position and shoots on target far more frequently than Hawkins.

Of course, everyone sees the game different. I thought it was too obvious that he needed someone up there with him. Even though I thought he was winning most or being a nuisance for the opposition last nights, no one was working off the seconds. When we are in the opposing teams final third with good numbers 4/5/6 players there, full backs are high etc, we look like we can work some good play. But it’s getting to the final third, and I don’t see passing round the back as the best solution, I would rather hit Hawkins and get Jackson around him, the wide men tucked in as well and play from there.

He’s sat on the bench because he isn’t good enough but he’s all we’ve got for the time being

We are a side in League 1 that finished 10th last year. We have 10 first teamers out, and our 5 best players. We are don’t to bare bones, forget ‘decent football’, let’s get some results until we get numbers back. Best way I see us getting results is to keep it simple, and get Hawkins and Jackson leading the line.

He's not even as good as Norwood, who isn't fit to lace Daryl Murphy's boots, let alone Scowy's, if we're talking target men.

Different players. Ollie is better a the lone target, Norwood better in a 2.
