Michael Vaughan appears to be cooked... on 12:03 - Nov 15 by Cotty
Not really, it's more "he said, he's denied, but these other two people have corroborated those reports".
Quite. This is a very brave move by Rashid, given his status as a current player. No doubt he'll be seen as a "grass" by those wallowing in the status quo.
Worrying noises coming out of Essex CCC with some regularity now too.

These reports aren't doing anything for people with the same name as him..........
I don't know too much about this but at the moment it seems a bit "he said, she said"?
To be honest, it seems a bit "bloke has confidence destroyed by repetitive racist "banter", suffers mental ill health, becomes suicidal, loses his career and institution does all it can to ignore his complaints and bury allegations against individuals because they are powerful figures within that institution" to me.
There was an investigation and a report. Individuals have been named. The Committee at Yorkshire Cricket sat on it and hoped it would all go away.
It's disgusting and appalling when institutions cover stuff up to prevent reputational damage, and treat effected individuals as collateral damage, whether that be child abuse cases, environmental/pollution/emissions scandal whistle blowing, cultures of misogynistic sexual predation and assault, or racist abuse.
It's not "he said, she said", it's "They said racist things, he told the truth, they covered it up".

Brave, but the right thing to do assuming it is true, and hopefully he'll have overwhelming support from all of his teammates. Good on him.

I was going to say that what's more worrying about Essex is that searching "Essex cricket" on Twitter, most of the posts are talking about it being a bandwagon, witchhunt, after a payout, etc...
But then another story breaks with new allegations...
No one is named and they are apparently no longer at the club, but it appears some of the allegations were complained about at the time.

I wish I was shocked.
John Stephenson's job is going to be a little different than he would have anticipated.

I'm not wholly surprised at these stories coming out of Essex CCC - when I lived in Chelmsford in the early 2000's I used a gym that Essex used to use as well. I'd occasionally be leaving as they were all coming in, with some particularly unpleasant 'bantz' aimed at a young asian lad in particular.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Well like the post euro 2020 Neanderthal, got to show there's no 'inbetweens', racism is racism.
I agree there should be no tolerance of racism but is prison always the right answer? In fact in this particular instance I'm not certain what offence Vaughan could actually be charged with.

The Tedious and Pathetic Banter Act of 2014?
Also known as 'Norwood's law'.

Jesus Christ!!
I shouldn't be surprised but I thought I was bad with some of my unconscious bias after reflecting on the BLM movement, but hearing some of these stories is just crazy. I remember when I was in my teens about 15 years ago I probably would have said things that I would regret now through pure naivety and an upbringing in the relatively low diversity of the Suffolk coast. However I can't even fathom the sort of allegations we're reading coming from Essex & Yorkshire. It's beyond belief - even without the racist nature it's bullying and/or assault.
As for Vaughan, I've never liked his attitude or smugness but will leave my view on the allegations against him alone for the time being.
