Each day from here gets a bit better imo. I don't mind the cold, but the darkness at this time of year really gets me down.

Going to work in the dark & coming home in the dark used to annoy me.

But when you're doing it WFH it's even fcuking worse.

Thank fook for that.

I've suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder since I was 15. I will never understand all those softcocks who say things like 'I love autumn'. Why? It just means it's going to be dark, cold, wet and contain England cricket defeats and Ipswich b*ggerng up their season again.

It's gotten more manageable over the years - I take a vitamin D supplement when and I'm working and having a dog means you HAVE to go out and keep a routine, but I still actively dread November through to March.

Nights is bloody awful this time of year. Go to work in the dark. Go home in murk. Wake up in the dark.

Only time you see sunlight is if you get up for a piss in the middle of the day.

Its been getting lighter for a week or so hasn't it?

Not dark until almost 5 now, but only a couple of weeks back it was dark at 4.

RIP Sir Bobby

Interestingly today onwards sunrise and sunset times are 7 h and 40 min apart every day until Sunday so I guess they are marginal gains for the first week or so.

Yes it's all of 2 seconds extra daylight tomorrow, we only gain a minute by New Years eve.

Interestingly, well if you like this kind of orbital mechanics thing, actually sunrise gets later and sunset shifts correspondingly later with only a tiny gain, but it's not till first week of January that sunrise starts to get earlier again

Very interesting feature on this on R5l a few days ago. I thought I was imagining it when daylight seemed to be marginally extending in the afternoons from about the 14th onwards, c. 4.15pm. I often walk the mutt in last hour of daylight, so notice it.

Prog said that it's true afternoon daylight extends from about 14th on - whilst morning daylight actually continues to diminish. The unevenness is all down to the Earth's tilt, and increases/decreases are v. marginal, 1 minute a day at each end at this time of year.

But it's the general direction that counts so yay, the December Solstice is better than Christmas Day as far as I'm concerned

I agree, winter solstice is better then Xmas. I suggest instead of celebrating the birth of a semi mythical magic baby in the Middle East we go back to celebrating the winter solstice, the beginning of the end of darkness and the coming of the light

You’ve forgotten to put the clocks back an hour, haven’t you.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.
