Colchester doing well then on 16:55 - Jan 1 with 3665 views | Nthsuffolkblue | I would imagine a good number of those players were happy to take a much reduced salary to stay local and save the hassle of moving. Few of them would have been getting especially good offers at League 1 level at this stage of their careers.

Shows the ambition. Sears, Judge and Chambers should be playing in the top end of this league still and opted for the 4th division just to avoid the extra effort. Skuse was past it two seasons ago though and probably should have retired.

In what world should Chambers, Sears and Judge have been playing top end League One football this season? Chambers was well over the hill, Judge constantly looked like he was trying to run in a swimming pool and sears was so out of form he couldn’t have scored against a toddler in his back garden. If a top end League One club wanted any of them they would have moved there

There's absolutely nothing ambitious about Colchester and the way they are run. Cowling has cut just about every corner he can possibly cut plus a few more over the past 18 months. [Post edited 1 Jan 2022 17:18]

The Col U move was just too obvious. Especially the fact they all went there, I'm just surprised Huws didn't join them. Wonder how many of their fans saw the warning signs.

I think Gillingham wanted all of them as well.

It was a 'comfortable' move for players who were already in their comfort zone.

Did Huws ever find a club? Or is he retired? Peak late-Evans banter era that the one time he spends some significant money, it’s on an injury-prone player who fails to live up to expectations.

I’m sure he would justifiably point to covid causing him to cut back but I take your general point. 2k crowds in a horrible soulless stadium with a team full of Ipswich rejects is no way to live

Maybe it helps Sears that he is playing in his proper position every week.

Get outside the top few clubs in this league, which they weren’t good enough for with possible exception of Judge, there is just no difference or value in moving as it’s basically no difference in money. It always looked too many of the same type of player - you need legs in these leagues as well as a couple of experienced heads

All of them are league two players at best. As others point out, most likely to take a pay cut to stay local for family reasons primarily. Good moves for them, but none are good enough at tip end of league one.

Colchester doing well then on 19:56 - Jan 1 with 2341 views | Hipsterectomy | I'd imagine the fact they are playing down the road meant that Colchester could actually offer quite reduced terms. Are these old guys really going to relocate their family, or bother with hour long commutes to teams such as Leyton Orient, just for a year or 2 of their declining careers?

Absolute failures, pisspoor signings all four of them for the pisspoor Colchester outfit. Remember last summer when some people had been telling us what 'fantastic professionals' Colchester were about to get in them? Not only did they take us down a fight they didn't show any hunger and desire to get the club out of this league. But that was Ipswich for them. Nice, easy, cosy, pressure free and the fact is that they didn't deliver for the three managers is very telling. They don't seem to be arsed to fight for the Colchester shirt either. But they are not. They are 2 years older now and the ones who went to Colchester are at the tail end of their careers. The idea that they lack ambition (from Essex) is a bit harsh too. They might have been offered a similar salary to be a squad player at a mid-table League 1 club in some other part of the country but how is that more ambitious than playing week in week out for Colchester? The fact they are not putting Colchester top half of League 2 does show they are no longer good enough for this division. It does not show they were not 2 years ago. They should have been good enough to get us in the promotion shake-up. It was Lambert's management of them that meant we were not.
