Doesn't it make a pleasant change to have so many to choose from?! You could also make out a strong case for at least 5 others too. [Post edited 8 Mar 2022 12:53]

JD, Walton, Fridge, Morsy. If only there was a striker contender in there too…

Wes Burns this season on 12:58 - Mar 8 with 1983 views | RobTheMonk | He's an absolute workhorse going in both directions. I can remember seeing him utterly outpace Wolfie when he was with Fleetwood and thinking how I'd love to see him here. I think we'll be looking at a LWB equivalent in the summer.

I wonder whether you could balance a team out with 2 flyers like that - because we effectively shift to a back 4 in the ball with Burns pushing on and Thompson dropping in

We need to find someone that can do the job equally as effectively on the left as WB on the right, otherwise we will become too predictable with our attacking threat. It would provide a nice balance to the side as well. [Post edited 8 Mar 2022 13:10]

Without a doubt. And Donacien our most improved player.

I think for Cooks downfalls here, it looks clear now that he and MA assembled a exceptional squad at this level. It just took a different manager to get the best out of the them, and shape them in to such a strong outfit.

Nobody could have any arguments if he did, along with Edmundson & Walton. For me though, I can't look past Donacien - I think he's been terrific this season, and even more so since moving into a back 3.

Agreed. Penney would do it going forward, but was suspect going the other way. Thompson seems better at staying back and as Joe said, slotting into a back 4. Whichever way you look at it, we're going to need a LWB next season, even if that means getting Thompson back as a loan/permanent deal. Potentially two depending on how McKenna feels about Penney.

Very true. You look at a lot of the signings that were made in the summer, there's quite a few of them now showing their full potential.

We spent fortunes in the summer, any CEO and manager combo could have built a good squad at this level with what we were spending in a depressed market

Wes JD Walton That’s my top three at the moment. Morsy had missed too many games - including the start of the season before he signed. Fridge has had some occasional shockers. Woolfie would be my player of the McKenna regime.
I actually think we are too reliant on him... on 13:35 - Mar 8 with 1687 views | unstableblue | Love those stats Joe. I think there is a hidden stat that in the few games he has played when he been off form... we just didn't convince or threaten We love Burns, and we need him to continue.. but we also need sources for assists and goals from multiple players... celina to jackson was so pleasing Thompson needs to get up the pitch more.... and hit the byline.. Morsy needs to keep breaking the lines

Perhaps not for all games, but certainly against half of this league next season (if we're in it), and if the awareness between the two wing backs and the sitting midfielder is right, then even against tougher teams you could play it. Would serve to keep Burns fresher through games and through the season as well.

Sometimes things don't need to be overcomplicated - especially when a lot of signings were players that have previously done well at this level, in the very recent past that we could blow clubs away wages wise. Even going back to Wes Burns, he was due to sign for Coventry, then Fleetwood triggered his contract option (that they couldn't afford to pay for the season) and because we were able to pay ~£150k transfer fee it meant that Coventry could no longer afford him. The bottom half of the Championship had no money, Leagues 1 and 2 had no money so we were very much able to get the pick of a lot of players. Someone like Sam Morsy was no doubt a tough deal to do, but being able to pay north of £10k a week made it achievable, without the loadsamoney we had there is no way that deal gets done

I thought the same on Penney from the eye test, but from the stats Thompson actually creates chances twice as often. [Post edited 8 Mar 2022 14:57]

Thompson is so comfortable on the ball in deep positions as well - think he helps us keep it really well. With Penney you were never sure if he was going to lose it.

It's a good post, very factual. But for it to be POTY, I'd expect it to be saying something we don't have a general idea of. Maybe I'm in the minority on this one. Edit for ITFCed: I'm not being serious, I was deliberately pretending POTY was POTY and not POTY... [Post edited 8 Mar 2022 16:18]
