I hope the decline starts after tonight’s match, although in their previous relegation years they’ve at least managed to get a jammy result against one of the big boys, please not this year!

Really?

Seems like a high risk game of poker if that's where they are going - Premier League could easily kick them out if that's the route they want to go. Or just award every game they miss 3-0 to the opposition and they p*ss away next seasons Champs League...

Lots of noise around this but at the end of the day I don't see an awful lot of sympathy going their way to be honest.

I cannot believe the amount of talk and worry about Roman Rat's poor old Chelsea when women and children are being bombed to bits in Ukraine.

Not much sympathy at all. Sport washing at its finest. Does anyone know if Bournemouth are getting twitchy?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Because we're football fans. It is possible to be interested in this and the horrors of what is happening in Ukraine. It's not an either or.

Fine, don’t fulfill fixtures and see where that gets them….

The whole thing couldn’t happen to a nicer club… classless from start to finish.

The whole thing is hilarious.

Well, if they cannot fulfil the fixtures that’s their problem. Withdraw from the league and start again, take the points hit, who cares.

They’ve won trophy after trophy on the back of criminal, dodgy money so be happy, enjoy what you had. If it’s back to a broken brick rubbish stadium with 10k crowds and a poor lower league team, be grateful for what you were given.

Sadly I suspect our weak, corrupt government will cave in, but they’ve actually no reason to. The Chelsea morons have nailed their colours to the RA mast at Burnley. While I cannot bring myself to say the words, I hope Chelsea lose.

Farage showing his true colours once again. As if we allowed this clown to have a genuine impact on our politics in the last 20 years.

That is a very very good point about Jim White and where he he was getting his dough from at the time. No wonder he supported (so presumably still does) Abramovich in that interview.

As for Farage, words fail me. Actually, not quite. He’s like the log you can’t flush away.

Matthew Syed is brilliant, his article in today's Times pulls no punches either. It's behind a paywall but here's the opening paragraph to enjoy...

"In the long history of useful idiocy, and the way in which self-righteous people unwittingly act on behalf of tyrants and dictators, a chapter should be devoted to Chelsea fans. A phalanx of this pitiful demographic has, over the past 20 years, acted as an unpaid army of PR bots for Roman Abramovich and, by implication, Vladimir Putin and his kleptocracy, a tale that we should not overlook on a watershed day for sport."

Should be the end of him really. But I doubt it will be.

Edit. And the people you always knew were appalling and doing nothing but validate your opinion of them.

For a man who, for all his many faults, seems to be relatively in tune with what a large proportion of the population are thinking he seems remarkably out of touch on this one. Maybe he thinks there's more Chelsea fans than there really are.
