Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? 13:34 - Apr 26 with 3085 views | BonneNIL | I have seen a lot of praise for Kayden Jackson on here in recent months and it actually perplexes me as to why? The man has had all but a couple of good games for Ipswich in four years. When he wasn't injured, he was suspended for silly fouls, he threw his dummy out of the pram when Evans rejected his move to Barnsley and was sent to train with the kids, so why on earth should we be keeping him now he's approaching 30, having scored less than 20 goals in 100 odd games? He had a couple of good games and got injured again this season. It's not going to get any better with him, is it? I really didn't understand why many of us still want him on the books. He's just not been very good, and for the million quid we paid for him Accrington must have been laughing all the way to the bank as we sunk like a stone in the Championship.

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 13:37 - Apr 26 with 2287 views | SheffordBlue | Because his pace and style of play fits with the way that McKenna wants to play? Can't see him being our starting striker next season but with the creative midfielders we have he's a good option to have

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 13:38 - Apr 26 with 2278 views | STYG | Ultimately he is likely to be retained as a third choice striker that perfectly fits the system McKenna has implemented. Perhaps it is fairer to assess him moving forward under McKenna by his time under that same manager, where he has absolutely stood head and shoulders over Norwood, Bonne and Piggott. He may not have been as prolific under Jewell or Cook and is clearly not the man we need to fire us to promotion. But given how much Donacien was written off by some and has arguably been player of the season, why can't Jackson contribute, given we've looked much better with him in the side and McKenna has praised his attitude and work ethic. For context - rewind this to before Christmas and this post could easily have been 'Why on earth should we keep Luke Woolfenden' who has looked the best defender in the division in 2022! I'd have lost no sleep over Wolf going and look what McKenna has done with him. [Post edited 26 Apr 2022 13:43]

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 13:38 - Apr 26 with 2271 views | wkj | Simply put, he deserves more time. He is one of the best at drawing the opposition backline out of shape, especially when he drifts wide. I feel that his off the ball work is more telling than his goal tally. You can't measure his input with assists and goals, but the team played much better with him in the squad. Easily worth at least one more year to get a full preseason and some much needed confidence under his belt. Whilst he hasn't done much in 4 years, we've been dealing with gaffers that haven't got the best out of him, he is one of the players that McKenna makes better. [Post edited 26 Apr 2022 13:39]

That's what it comes down to. If the Manager wants him as part of the squad, then he should stay.

As pointed out on the KOA pod - he creates a lot of space for others, which is why we have played McKennaball so much better when he has been in the team.

Yup... far too many people look at the goals scored and assists columns but don't see how important off the ball movement is when attacking the opposition. Dominance in the area between the edge of the box and about halfway to the centre spot is the key to any sustained success. Jackson helps us out by creating channels to transition from this area in to the box - something Norwood, Pigott and Bonne doesn't do as well as they are more adept to running the channels rather than creating them. Those few games were also some of the best Celina / Aluko / Chaplin had looked because of just how much space Jackson's tireless running created for them.
Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 14:16 - Apr 26 with 1997 views | jayessess | McKenna rates him as a player and a character, he played well for us this season when called on and he suits the style of football McKenna wants to play. All that really. I do wonder if he'll want to hang around here as a squad player on a 1-year contract though.

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 14:24 - Apr 26 with 1977 views | Parky | Might be absolutely garbage, but I’ve been told that he’s now unlikely to sign a new deal and will be moving on, which would be to your delight. FWIW, I think he has a place here under McKenna, but I can’t forget the last 4 seasons where I feel he’s underperformed here. With our new budget and ambitions, I’d like to think we can do better than Jackson as our main striker next season, but would be more than happy to have him as an option.
Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 14:28 - Apr 26 with 1935 views | ElephantintheRoom | Perhaps he just needs a bit more abuse from loyal ‘supporters’ like you to really reach the next level. McKenna seems to like him - and the team played better than the 11th best team in the division with him in the team. And of course with all those fitness gurus and performance directors long term injuries will be a thing of the past.

He'll be 2nd or 3rd choice still next season, I think. A very worthy back up based on his performances under McKenna. But I think he probably wants to be first choice somewhere.

Also think his hamstring injury might come into play, looked very nasty and for a 30yo reliant on pace this could be bad news. A certain Mr M Owen never really recovered from his.

Dear oh dear. We signed a top 6 Championship quality keeper in Walton, Chaplin who played regularly in a team who just finished in the Championship playoffs and Morsy, who was playing regularly for a team aiming for the playoffs in the Championship. Yet people continue to worry that we can't do better than a striker who has 1 goal in 24, another who has 2 goals in 20 and another who is a walking yellow card, often injured, a nightmare at times off the pitch and whose best season at this level was 10 goals. Unreal.
