Retired. Other then two nightmare games against Lincoln (where he played in a back 3) I don’t think he ever had a bad game for us. The best CB of the Banter Era? I’d say so.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Loved it when he and Tommy were grabbing goals from corners regularly. An absolute diamond player who clearly loved to sh1t strikers up every chance he got.

I never really warmed to him, despite accepting he was a good defender.

I think it was probably because whilst he was a very effective stopper, he was a remarkably limited ball player
A proper old fashioned centre half really, but I tend to be drawn to players with more technical ability.

That said, he was a key part of the last half decent team we had, which already feels aaaaages ago.

Very good at what he did, a defender that defended and also as you say, a threat at the other end too.
He did not lose many physical battles with opposition strikers
A very good servant to ITFC during his time here.

I had a conversation with the owner of a secondhand bookshop in Fort William who was a Heats supporter just after Christophe went back up there and he was of much the same opinion as me about him.

Happy retirement Christophe.

A whole hearted and brave CB. Always felt he did a great job for us.

Still can't quite compute that Tommy left us in his late 20s - just when a centre half should be reaching their prime. I know he has not done anything of note since leaving the States but it all felt really premature when he went. Good for 3-5 goals each season. The play off goal gave us so much hope for a minute or two.

Quite right, very good bit of business for us to bring him in on a free. Absolute rock, I remember one game at Wolves, I think it finished 0-0 but honestly Berra was out of this world. Seemed like he absolutely loved those old school 1 v 1 match ups. We always had such a good defensive unit under Mick with Bart, Berra, Smith, Chambers, Mings at various times. Were a handful in the final 3rd too in Murphy, McGoldrick and even Sears.

I always felt we were very much a side that reflected our management team. Old school, pragmatic, take no prisoners defensively a la MM and TC doing the biz with the forwards.

That was the last time that I was really in love with ITFC, or at least the team and Manager, but the love might be coming back a bit now.

It seemed to be Webster arriving that did for him, he didn't really get a look in when Webster was fit and Smith had injuries of his own. You feel he shouldn't have dropped down like he has.

Think I'm the same. We all knew our limitations but it was a side / management that you knew you were getting commitment from. I never doubted for a second that we wanted it more than the opposition 9 times out of 10. We only ever fell short on quality, often in the middle 3rd, we never lacked application or desire. As supporters you're fine with that.

Against Callum Wilson for Bournemouth at Easter 2015 stands out as well, an absolute battle that Berra, just about, came out on top in. One of those late kick-offs for Sky where the atmosphere is excellent because a) it's a big game and b) everyone has spent an extra two hours in the pub.

A shame he didn't just let that shot in in the play-off semi, 11 vs 11 I think we would have had a very good chance of winning that, pressure got to Norwich that day (apart from Redmond for 15 minutes). CB struggled at the start of 2015-16, took a while to get going again.

He wanted to go back to Scotland in the end didn't he? MM rightly understood that that was right for him.

Plus that game against Rotherham, during which he repetedly gave the ball away. Also getting red carded in the play-off match the previous season

But that's not to be overly critical of a decent player who gave generally good service to the club.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

He was an absolute ninja at fouling the attacker but almost always just not enough for the ref to blow for a foul. He was truly world-class at that.

Great defender for us.

Well the Norwich handball wasn't ideal....

But yes, a very solid centre back, and I remember being irritated and a little confused when he upped sticks and left.

Probably the last old school centre half we'll see at Portman road

I remember seeing his debut, he was wearing a gum shield and run likenhe sh@t himself (clearly wasn't match fit)

Solid as a rock, brave and a decent turn of pace, an absolute warrior. As someone previously said he was the master of making contact without conceding free kicks.

Was sad it was him who handballed on the line and when he left

Tommy's back went innit. Still remember that goal Martin scored where Tommy let it bounce and it was either a massive misjudgement or lack of mobility.
