Only one has us in the auto places at the end of the season. They seem to accept that a jump from 11th to top 2 is too big a gap in one season.
It made me wonder what it would have taken for them all to have us top 2? Maybe another striker - but they don't seem to say that. It seems that they just thing that the gap is too big to make up this year.
I'm surprised, because I know there are other teams who are strong, but really are they, on paper, much better than us? If so, what is it that makes them better than us?

Everyone is slightly lowing their predictions based on previous seasons.
11th to 2nd in league one isn't anywhere near impossible. I think most are taking what looks like the safe bet and sticking us in the play offs but really we're hoping for more. |  |

Think there is a lot of Ipswich pessimism that comes from being let down so many times. Objectively, we should be top2 this season really. Not sure what grounds there is for predicting sides like Bolton, Portsmouth, Plymouth, MK will finish ahead of us. |  | | |

I honestly don't think anyone has a better squad than us, and I'm not being biased when I say that.
I'll honestly be disappointed if we don't finish in the top 2 this season. Anything else is a failure IMO, and I'm almost certain the owners would see it like that as well. [Post edited 29 Jul 2022 13:12]

We haven't troubled the play offs in 3 years in this league, scraping top half finishes.
We were probably tipped for top 2 in each of those seasons. |  |

Doubts remain because of stuff like Cambridge away, Oxford away, Cheltenham at home. All games that should have been won but weren’t. Call it mental weakness or just bad decisions or whatever - it’s dropping points when we shouldn’t. Need some steel and toughness on show from day one. |  |

Reality is nobody knows do they, none of these predictions are meaningful. There's 6 or 7 teams that could feasibly win the league, maybe more. Long old season and anything can happen, but we've got as good a chance as anyone IMO. |
Of course, of course! But it's part of the fun isn't it! I'm just interested in trying to guess why only one thinks we should be top 2. There has to be a reason behind that - it;s what i'm trying to tease out. Personally I think it's not daring to hope any more! On paper we really do have as strong a squad as anyone, we have a decent manager (on paper at least) and we have good financial backing which means we should be able to strengthen in Jan if needed.
So why shouldn't we be the one's that get top 2? I can't think of any reason apart from the fact that after so many season of decline and mediocrity we might just be one of the best teams this season! I cannot remember what it like to be supporting the team that everyone has to catch - not since the late 70's and early 80's, when we just expected the team to do well - every week. No one, not even Liverpool in their pomp or man u with all their money, made us afraid. Strangely, in those days our bogey men were the likes of Forest and Villa.
I'm excited about this season - I just sense we could be going back to those days 9even if it is in the third division! | |

Yeah, for sure, didn't mean to sound dismissive! Just that it's so hard to make a call between a lot of the sides at this level IMO. It's very different to the Premier League for example where you could be pretty confident that City will be 1st or at worst 2nd.
I find it strange why Peterborough aren't being given much respect in a lot of these predictions. I saw 10th earlier which I would be very surprised at. They were weren't bad last season albeit they came down from the Championship, with a little more luck could've stayed up at Reading's expense. They had some decent results and they've largely kept the squad together, good manager in Grant McCann too. | |

It is reasonable to base a view of achieving top 2 having seen earlier results and progress, therefore our past isnt immediately pointing to automatic promotion. However, the coaching set up, and squad we have assembled, under the right conditions, can/will compete in every game, therefore top 2 is what I am hoping for.
In reality, top 4 will be a good season, but if it doesn’t happen this season it loads more pressure on next year.
Let’s just get it done and get out of L1. We are soon to be on our way!!! | |

Possibly because they’ve seen Ipswich play under McKenna and think the lack of goals and turning goal-happy strikers into goal-shy strikers) isn’t a problem that’s going to go away.
Plus they are probably under instructions to be a tad realistic. After all at no point in the third division tenure so far have Town remotely threatened to be in the play offs. | |

Not really thinking too much about it - just have a real sense that at last the stars are lining up and everyone in the club is focussed and has the right resources to make it happen. Yep, i may end up disappointed, but I really don't see why it shouldn't be us as much as any other team. The only reason not to think that is expectation and hope management!

There's also the issue that we struggle to win against teams who refuse to let us play 'our way'.
