Why are the Tories making the axing of the bankers bonus cap… on 10:56 - Sep 23 with 2305 views | Plums | There is far more here for the average person to complain about than there ever was during the poll tax days and yet we've been neutered by years of their propaganda and we're all just sucking it up. Where's the fcking anger? Or do we all just moan on social media instead? [Post edited 23 Sep 2022 10:57]

You'll have to show your workings for that claim. You know the rules.

Why are the Tories making the axing of the bankers bonus cap… on 11:06 - Sep 23 with 2234 views | SomethingBlue | Tragically, they'll still be cheered through in the election by the people they're hurting the most because immigrants or something. And if by some chance that doesn't happen — they'll try to rig it anyway. Time to wake up and get real, very very quickly, because it should be abundantly clear that these people will stop at nothing.

Why are the Tories making the axing of the bankers bonus cap… on 11:11 - Sep 23 with 2213 views | StokieBlue | I'll refer to my posts during the leadership contest that if there is a change of leader and they want to implement policies which are far outside the remit of the manifesto then there should be a general election. A few didn't like/support that view but it seems abundantly clear to me that there has to be something like this implemented. If it's not then essentially any party can win an election on a manifesto that looks great, change leader and then implement anything at all they want which has no mandate from the public. The Tories have proven today that it's a viable strategy. SB | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I half agree. I don’t think politicians of any colour can be trusted fully, but there are different degrees of trustworthiness and some will try to do more than others to help those in need.

Why are the Tories making the axing of the bankers bonus cap… on 11:15 - Sep 23 with 2171 views | belgablue | Personally I think the cap on bankers bonuses is totally pointless and doesn't really benefit anyone. Why are only bankers bonuses capped? Why not energy bosses, utility bosses, CEOs etc... It's a policy that sounds good on a press release but doesn't really achieve anything. Better regulation of the financial sector that came after 2008 was much more important.

The only people who benefit from this is the openly corrupt. True, a lot of politicians are far too smooth and vanilla, but this present administration are light years away in corruption than previous governments.

If anything doesn’t that suggest capping of excessive bonuses across the board is the way forward, so money has to be channelled elsewhere to the benefit of more people?

Something to do with the 2008 financial crisis in which the pursuit of riches led to some bankers being reckless.

The problem was the cap was never really a cap it was a limit of 200% ofba person's basic pay. Before the cap traders/investment bankers were paid a small basic salary and then a large bonus based on their performance. When the cap came in Banks simply gave those same people a massive increase in basic salary and paid a smaller bonus but they were still earning more than before the cap was introduced. I think a lot of people think the cap meant bankers cannot earn more then X. The irony is the people most upset about removing the cap are those same bankers as now banks will reduce their basic salary back to the small pre cap days.

Because casino banking and chasing short term gains to hit targets for bonus season caused the 2008 worldwide financial crash. The wider context was a huge penchant for "cutting red tape" and a light touch regulatory framework. So it's only if people like Jacob Rees-Mogg, the Business Secretary, favour that approach that we would need to worry. Oh.
Why are the Tories making the axing of the bankers bonus cap… on 11:39 - Sep 23 with 1986 views | tractordownsouth | With this and the 5% tax cut for millionaires, I never want to hear anyone saying Starmer is Tory-lite or that a Labour government would be just the same. The claim was never true in the first place but it’s just completely divorced from reality now.

And what do the bankers have against earning a capped, but still astronomically high salary, jealousy? Why aren’t they being forced to work more hours for their money, like the part-time workers with care responsibilities who are having their budgets cut to pay for these handouts for millionaires?
