The latest Tory excuse is a belter 09:19 - Sep 28 with 2328 views | tractordownsouth | Daniel Hannan, along with Lord Frost and John Redwood are now claiming that the pound dropped due to the prospect of a Labour government. The fact that it happened in the hours after Kwarteng's announcement is just a coincidence presumably. I'm almost impressed that Hannan has managed to write an article more ridiculous than his "Coronavirus won't kill you" offering from 2020.

They're empty, busted and shown up for what they are, but just can't admit it (which is human) [Post edited 28 Sep 2022 9:25]

It must be tough for them, figuring out that their entire careers have been a waste and that their only meaningful contribution to public service has been to crash the economy. They've spent years advocating for this nonsense and now it's finally being implemented, it's fallen apart in the first few days. If they weren't all insulated from the consequences which are going to fall on everyone else, I might have sympathy for them.

Mate, they are literally enacting policies to ensure that they and their mates get even richer. As far as they're concerned, they've cracked it.

I suppose these are the last desperate attempts to ensure they've got more than 2 years to do it. These lot are terrified that they might not have a Tory government after 2024 as well.

Most 'libertarians' don't really believe in a level playing field without regulation anyway. What they believe in is a regulation free existence for rich, white, cis men. Put them in front of women, poor people, the LGBTQ community, non-white folks or foreigners and there's suddenly a KEEN interest in the state meddling in people's lives.

It's built upon the fantasy that might is right and individual effort will always bring success. Usually propounded by people who have found success, with or without hard work, mostly with the help of circumstances beyond their immediate control (e.g. economic/social stability or unrest, developing technology, having the right contacts, having seed funding behind them). Or those who wish they were them and/or seek to siphon off some of the wealth for themselves. It's pretty much the opposite of the civilised societies we have been trying to build for the last 7,000 or so years, where the living standards of the whole community are raised by cooperation and integration.

They'll all realise the gravy train might be drying up a bit if their mates aren't in power. We're going to see more of the "but Labour" over the next 2 years, as barring a miracle they won't be in power for the next decade.

Anyone old enough to remember Harold Wilson going on Television in November 1967, after the pound was devalued, saying "does not mean, of course, that the pound here in Britain, in your pocket or purse, or in your bank, has been devalued“ Guess we will be hearing similar comments soon.
