We really should be playing Saturday 21:42 - Mar 21 with 4526 viewsNutkins_Return

McKenna obviously knows what he's doing but it really feels like a missed opportunity. Barnsley have put a lot into this game and we would have come in fresh onto a really nice zippy playing surface. We could have played really high tempo with out possession game and taking their legs away 2nd half.

If on a non international Friday it was announced we had Broadhead and Burns out would you feel the same ?

It's what it is, anyone in our position would do the same.

Stop analysing, enjoy the break

It wouldn't matter what I felt if they were out injured. I'd still be confident on the back of that game that a fresh Town side would beat them.

I don't think 'it is what it is' relates to a decision. That applies when nothing we could have done about it (like injuries).

I'm not stressed over it. I understand the thinking and the decision. I couldn't admire/respect McKenna any more than I do. Just wondering at football related thought on a footie forum. If we're not analysing football stuff here what are we doing? ;)

I do think their playing surface will suit us!

The timing of the break is a shame but no chance we should be thinking we can go to a red hot team without two of our best players and boss the game.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I wasn't having a dig.

I just think any team with two key players out would go for a postponement.

Two weeks on the training ground with McKenna isn't like two weeks with Lambert/Cook/Hurst etc

And we now have a 2 week break before a punishing 8 game April.

Sounds sensible to me

And Barnsley don’t. They’ll have been grinding out results - hopefully knackered, injured or banned when we get up there!

No way do I want to play Barnsley with Jackson and Harness over Burns and Broadhead.

Why on earth would you want to?!

Fair play.

The burning we have had before in previous eras doesn't help. My thinking is more around the advantage we would have after a very very physical game they have just had.

Coming to end of 8 game April we will have people missing.

I will add if we lose against them I won't be on here gloating. Losing doesn't mean it was definitely the wrong call. Find margins either way.

Jesus Burns was on fire Saturday let's play Jackson absolutely NOT same regards Broadhead and Harness .

Harness for Broadhead is the bigger worry, along with the lack of depth on the bench. Jackson has been playing really well lately.

Either way, I still don't see the logic in looking to go into our toughest remaining fixture without two key players. Barnsley played last night but it was a home game, no travelling and plenty of recovery time between Tuesday and Saturday. They're coming off their best win of the season and will be buzzing. It's a fixture we'd be mad to deliberately go into at least than full strength.

Can almost guarantee if we did play on Saturday and lost someone would be on here saying we shouldn't have played on Saturday.

They are professional athletes, they aren't going to be dead on their feet playing Tuesday and Saturday, it's a often repeated myth.

They’ve just beaten the league leaders and their confidence and self-belief will currently be sky high. Their fans will be really up for it as well.

If we did play on Saturday we would be doing so with two attacking players unavailable- those two players would be players who the opposition would fear. Playing Jackson and Harness would not be the same and would be yet another psychological advantage for Barnsley.

The correct decision, with how it stands currently (not with hindsight in a few weeks time) was made to postpone.

There's a lot of if's, what's and maybe's. We just need to focus on us.

Mathematically we can still reach 102 points. Highly unlikely of course but we just need to stick to our side of the bargain, and going to Barnsley without 2 of our most creative players would've made the challenge even greater.

All the sides around us have some tough games coming up, I'm looking at Plymouth with 5 games in 16 days, including some long old journeys and tough trips to Exeter and Shrewsbury. Sheff Wed have a tricky looking finish, if they feel the heat over the next few weeks that won't be straight forward.

All we can do in the short term is go to Derby and beat them. If we can do that you would certainly look at the 4 fixtures that follow (3 of which at home) and think it could yield a decent amount of points.

Yeah I think Derby is a key game, win that and I can see our winning run continue through the following four games. Nothing a given of course, but it will be exciting!

True they would have been tired but they would also have momentum and extra confidence. I analysed the game yesterday and there are plenty of areas that we can exploit with our normal game and Davis is going to be very effective on the left with his balls in. The strength in attack that Broady gives us supporting those channels would have been crucial though and not sure Harnessi offers the same threat.
Our ball out from the back will be under constant pressure as we all know how Norwood loves to chase the ball back.

Eh? Who is that addressed to?

No idea where arrogance comes in here.

I think there are good arguments both sides. Totally agree with someone posting above that people would moan if we lost Saturday that we should have postponed. I assure you I won't be jumping up and down saying I told you so if we lost the re-arranged fixture. Tough decision I think. I just felt there were advantages to playing after that effort they put in mid-week. I also think the two week gap to Derby is sub-optimal. We need to be very careful not to have a loose first 20 in that game.

Note: I back us to win either way. Fingers crossed. Going to be a hell of an ask to get into top two. So little margin for dropping points. The top 4 have been immense.

Against a Barnsley side that had a hard 90+ minutes game last night Yes.
We have immense squad depth to match up.

Barnsley have won 10 and drawn 2 of their last 12. They have just beaten the league leaders who were on a 15-match unbeaten run where they had won 11 of those. Norwood has been banging in goals for fun for them. I don't think it is a bad game for us to have postponed.

We now need to make sure we win those games we play before we do play them so that regardless of the result when we do, we will finish above them.

Ramadan will also be over which must give Morsy an extra couple of percent on his performance level.
Cant imagine hydration tablets offer exactly the same performance as water or other liquids he could drink.

Not saying its a reason to postpone but a fully functioning Morsy as well as burns and Broadhead are worth a calculated postponement gamble
