Looking as though we are going to have to dig deep to land the quality we are seeking . How much do posters feel we will be willing to fork out ? those in the know and others like me please speculate . Maybe just as a bit of fun as we can afford to enjoy life as we are TOP of the league .

Pure guess work. But I can't see without selling players that we can afford anything over £2 mill. Maybe even 1.5 as an up front fee.

Out losses much be incredibly high despite the mass upward trend in attendances etc.

Until we are able to start selling players for double digit millions I can't see how financially we can go much further than a couple mill which we will get back through previous player sale installments..

I feel like we might have taken the squad as far as we can with our recent transfer strategy of buying players in the roughly 22-25 age bracket for £1 - 1.5m. The squad is pretty well balanced and I think it's going to be hard to buy players for the starting XI in that bracket, while it's a hard sell to convince someone to come in and be a squad player.

I see the options as bringing in someone later in their career (would mean less resale value), earlier in their career (more of a risk) or push the boat out and sign someone for bigger fee say £3-5m but I don't know if we can do that with FFP. Might need to sell someone before starting to spend the big bucks and unlikely to do that until the end of the season once the squad has proved themselves in the championship and can get more value for our players.

I believe we get around 9 million in extra revenue from the Championship tv deal versus the League 1 rights , so may have a little bit to play with.

Though some of that may be swallowed up by players contracts and pay rises from promotion.

I think the issue with fees is that we dont have much leeway within FFP to pay out for big fees.

May need to sell someone or shift a lot of shirts before we can do that. Lets hope Ed comes up with an amazing third shirt again.

Yes, until we sell someone for 15-20m people touting 5m buys are in cloud cuckoo land.

Not because our owners can't afford it/ won't do it but because of FFP. I've seen a fair few people think we are starting on 0 because we just came out of L1

Thé club is currently losing £1 million a month. Granted they might try to ‘do a Leicester/Bournemouth /Wolves’ and ignore FFP…. But at some point some money has to start flowing in the opposite direction. Given there is currently no space on the team for two of the most expensive recent recruits, buying yer another mercenary is somewhere between foolhardy and plain daft

All footballers are mercenaries. I know you hark back to the golden age of the 50s when players stayed with a single club, but they only did that because the maximum wage meant there was no point in moving.

Are you a fan of the maximum wage?

If your right and i'm not saying your not it sort of makes a mockery of the recent links such as Armstrong or the latest one of the Villa winger . Unless of course one of our big names is on the way ?

I don't personally believe in any of these big outlay links.

We may have looked at Simms for example but I don't personally believe we ever looked at anything over a couple mill.

These ipswich looking at 8 mill Armstrong links imo are just agents getting bid wars and using town as a scapegoat.

I may well be completely wrong I just can't see how it's possible to have large funds to play with without sales first..

Keinan Davis to Hull for around £1m apparently. Can't see us spending £3/4m on another striker when Hirst is our starter so that is exactly the kind of deal we should have been all over.

Maybe we were and if most of the above is true it is probably quite easy for us to be outbid . Shows what a difficulty task Ashton has I suppose .

If anyone's interested, I just need 'something offensive about Dale Roberts' or some carping about David Sheepshanks to completely fill my Nerdy bingo card.

We have got to be looking at Sunderland and how they transitioned from L1 to playoffs.

I know you have to take this website with a handful of salt, but it gives an idea of their spending.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/transfers/wettbewerb/GB2/plus/?sais

Not sure how much Jack Clarke would have cost them - maybe £2m plus another £2m if they got promoted? Plus they had Diallo and Simms in as loans.

If we spend £2-3m on a CB and swallow a hefty loan fee for a 3rd striker we get close.

It is utter bobbins.

For us to be losing £1 million a week our squad would all have to be on £40,000 a week each, and that is if TV money, tickets, sponsorship and other revenue only covered non-Playing staff costs.

We were led to believe that Evans was facing up to a £15 million loss a season in the Championship, with lower crowds and less tv money etc.

£1 million a week losses is absolute nonsense.
