Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? 14:13 - Oct 2 with 7504 views | itfcjoe | I wonder if we have a loan recall for Idris in January? With Luongo and Morsy potentially going off to the Asia Cup and AFCON, and Evans having a potential knee injury (and struggling to play at the pace we need to as a team) where do we look to bring someone in for a few games who is up to match speed? I wonder if there is a possibility to bring El Miz back on or around Jan 1st, have him there to cover Asia Cup and AFCON and then send him back to Orient at the end of the month

Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? on 14:30 - Oct 2 with 5319 views | BigCommon | Could see us just weathering it, with Taylor, Ball, Humphreys, Aluko, Harness ? and Evans if hes not too crocked.. Just our luck to have the guts of our midfield taken out at a time when pitches are heavy and some rotation would be needed... Echos of last Winter.. We might see a tweak in formation, perhaps? More of a 4-1-4-1, or a braver 4-1-3-2
Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? on 14:38 - Oct 2 with 5250 views | nodge_blue | Ashton said something along the lines of we don't want to be a club that just collects players for the sake of it, and we believe players should if not in the picture go out and play football. I think on that basis its highly unlikely we would drag a player back to cover a period of 3 or 4 weeks.

Contracted till next summer with +1 year option. I'd Imagine we'd be open to selling him, either in Jan, or in the summer. Never quite had the opportunities here, but never let us down.

Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? on 14:41 - Oct 2 with 5215 views | Herbivore | How's he been getting on in League 1 this season? It's not a bad idea to bring him back effectively as short term cover, if he tears it up he stays and pushes for a regular place in the side, if not he can go back to Orient. Seems a better idea than signing another loanee who won't know the club, I guess there's always the chance we have a longer term target lined up who might become available in January as well.

Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? on 14:44 - Oct 2 with 5194 views | Kev_W | I expect a central midfilelder is already on the shopping list for January. Succession planning given the ages and contracts of several of the current midfield. Part of improving the squad. I'd imagine El Miz would be vwry much a last ditch option.

This. Come next summer (at the latest), I expect our CM options to look a lot different to what they do now.

Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? on 15:41 - Oct 2 with 4744 views | _clive_baker_ | I think it'll depend on who gets called up. Luongo isn't likely to be in the Australia squad is he? Presumably it's just Morsy and Burgess, the latter might give a good opportunity to Tuanzebe to form a relationship with Woolfenden, plus we still have Edmundson. Morsy is always going to be missed in the middle, but with Taylor, Luongo, Ball, Evans, Humphreys, and even Harness we have decent numbers for what would likely be 3-4 games. I can't see that El Miz would come back and be ahead of any of those anyway, so not sure there's a lot of value in bringing him back. I wouldn't be surprised if we look to add a central midfielder in Jan irrespective of that, what with half an eye on succession planning longer term. Ball and Evans are both out of contract at the end of the season, and Luongo and Morsy not getting any younger. I think there will definitely be appetite to go big in midfield in the right player becomes available.

Not beyond the realms of possibility Luongo could be in the running as well. The Australia manager was at the game at QPR and spoke to ML, who said he was "definitely in the mix again".
Bring him back on 15:57 - Oct 2 with 4626 views | unstableblue | He’s much closer to Morsy than Ball and Evans, and closer to the system. He’s never - for me - put in a bad performance in a town shirt. And crucially he’s got a real engine on him. Gets around the pitch, gets stuck in, and can break the lines. Yes he might not be good enough in the long term. But perhaps he’d have been better than Evans in the deep role on Saturday?? Orient fans love him

Imagine having a January like last year where we drew a few games. KM needs to plan ahead on this one or we will need the Samaritans in stand by.
Idris El Mizouni....loan recall? on 16:48 - Oct 2 with 4395 views | The_Flashing_Smile | Is there not a possibility of match postponements to cover some of this? I appreciate if it's 3 or 4 games that's quite a lot to make up, but it does seem a little unfair to suddenly lose one of the best midfield partnerships in the division. It's like we're being punished for being good!

Not for the ASIA cup or AFCON. It regularly impacts certain clubs e.g. Salah & Mane when he was at Liverpool. If anyone has ever requested postponements it would've been Liverpool. In fact they probably asked to replay the games they missed when they lost. Probably started a petition or something. [Post edited 2 Oct 2023 16:55]

We won 4 of the 5 premier league matches that he missed! I think it’s more accurate to say Finidi George’s form never recovered.

Yep, this is for me an option if both go - we get someone who is match fit coming in to cover a 3-4 week period before going back out to Orient for whom he is their best player.....so effectively they just suffer what we do - lose best player for 3-4 weeks and have to replace with an inferior one but we have a very suitable stand in

Has he trained here in the McKenna system pre-season, before he went on his loans? Would he be up to speed to drop straight in? Is he (or any of our other options) able to take the ball from the keeper and turn under pressure whilst hardly ever giving it away (like Morsy and Luongo can)? If no to any of these, we've probably got to look at a tweak to the system rather than try to replace like for like in a very risky position. Having two CMs dropping deep to show for the ball out from the keeper and a slightly deeper 10 and narrower wide forwards might be the answer? Something like this: -------------------Hladky ----Woolf----------------------Burgess Clarke ---Humph-------Ball -------------------Taylor----------------Davis ---------Chaplin---------Broadhead -------------------Hirst

Does he come back and jump ahead of 2 or 3 of Taylor, Ball, Humphreys and Evans though, against Sunderland and away to Leicester? Having not been around the place for the past 6 months and never played at Championship level. Feels a little far fetched to me. I wouldn't rule Harness out of an opportunity in there too, KM mentioned it at the weekend and he looked really comfortable there in pre season. El Miz will also then have played for 2 clubs this season, so Orient would be his only suitor. I think the window shuts well before the end of the AFCON or ASIA cup anyway which run into Feb, so he either goes back and we don't get the benefit of him covering the whole tournament, or he stays here for the 2nd half of the season and probably doesn't play much.
