I leave mine 'on' all year round, the thermostat determines if it kicks in or not. Last night was the first time this autumn that it was cold enough for the central heating to run.

We do the same. We have it on 14 degrees from around April/May to October/November, and Saturday night was the first night it kicked in for us.

Mine kicked in on Friday evening for the first time since about early May I think.
Now set to 20c during day, 21 evening and 19.5 at night. Apparently that's too warm according to my Northern colleagues...

Had to put mine on last night, kids rooms were just getting too cold overnight
I considered it but for whatever reason didn't switch it back on. Then I went in to my sons room at 6:30 this morning when he woke up and it felt flipping cold so won't be doing that again. I asked him if he was cold he said he wasn't but he always says that even when his feet feel like blocks of ice to me. I'll be sticking it on now to kick it at about 15.

I do something similar. The heating never usually needs to come on from April to September. But a wise plumber told me 15 years ago when I had to have the whole system flushed, it's worth forcing the heating to come on a couple of times through the summer just to move the water around and not let any sediment settle & solidify at narrow points in the pipes. I've always tried to remember to do that every summer since.

I have one kid who is always hot and radiates heat, but who wraps himself up in more and more layers; then my other who is always cold (from literally the moment he was born) who takes layers of whenever he can, including when he is in bed so hard to manage their rooms!
