Game confirmed as off on 17:06 - Oct 20 with 3125 views | gainsboroughblue | Disgraceful. Obvious that this was a safety concern all day and they allow people to risk life and limb getting all the way there only to have to turn around again. Beyond piss poor. Safe journey home blues and hope any travel costs are recompensed.

Indeed. The station has been closed due to flooding pretty much all day and they know the River Don is highly susceptible to flooding and is right next to the ground. Why wait for the inevitable flood when the heavy rain has been forecast all day for some time? As you say, loads of Town fans will have made potentially dangerous journeys for no reason, hope they all get back safely this evening.

Who's said the pitch isn't playable? If you read the article it's the surrounding areas.

Rotherham are factually correct. The pitch is playable. What planet are you on?

As some have suggested, I bet this would've been called off a lot sooner if it weren't for Sky.

Game confirmed as off on 17:15 - Oct 20 with 2699 views | TresBonne | Statement this morning ‘expected to go ahead’- not one mention of the river flooding, no official communication throughout the day just fan videos of it getting higher and higher. Anyone could see the river flooding, but they let fans travel up. A simple ‘possibility of postponement’ statement would’ve been helpful - then let people make their own minds up wether they want to risk it or not. It's a joke to say it's gonna be on, let everyone make dangerous journeys in sh1te weather, then call it off 3 hours before KO. On the bright side, always a silver lining, the conditions wouldn't have suited our game so at least we might have a better chance of winning the reschedule.

Looked at a weather forecast and, using the knowledge they gleaned from 2019, made a reasonable assessment of the likelihood of there being issues?

Agree. Given how events were unfolding, this is an obvious decision that could and should have been made a lot earlier. I’ll be interested to hear what the football clubs, particularly RUFC whose responsibility I presume it is to stage the game, have to say about it. Besides an explanation, the supporters who’ve travelled deserve some recompense for what this shambles has cost them.

Not sure how helpful that would have been really and don't think it would have been responsible to put people in limbo like that. What definitely isn't responsible is Rotherham putting out a statement about the pitch, and only the pitch, which acted as a green light for people to travel. As others have said really not good for people to make a potentially dangerous journey then call it off and make them go back in worsening conditions.
