Sending out players that looked closer to third tier football than Premier League and closer to retirement than their peak maybe wasn't the best idea by Mckenna.
Yes, Baggot, Humphreys and Harness showcased their worth, and McKenna probably has a clearer idea of where we need upgrades in January and next summer and we saved the legs of the starting eleven. But, in front of a big crowd we went down without a fight - McCarthy style. Baggot and Humphreys on from the start and one or two youths snapping at the heals of the Fulham prima donnas might have given the crowd something to cheer.
I bet Fulham couldn't believe their luck as our seemingly systemless and bewildered players failed to provide the stern test they expected - if their forums mirror the staffs' concerns. It was disappointing; we all make mistakes. However, of course McKenna is the best thing that has happened to this club in 20 years and has the wiggle room the size of that corridor in Versailles so ... forgotten .... almost. |  | | |  |

I’m sure the result or rather the manner of defeat wasn’t part of the plan.
But clear from the starting line-up that this was picked with the League campaign as the priority and getting as many fringe players as possible up to speed. Especially with a league game under 72 hours later if we’d chucked in a lot more first-teamers.
If we’d done that, played better and even won, then that would be a potentially bigger mistake right off the bat. |  |

It was not a mistake, it was a conscious decision. And the correct one. It’s disappointing that we weren’t in the game, but we will gain far more from that than we did against an out of sorts Wolves reserves.
The players got competitive minutes. They needed it even if they were worked over by a better team. Clearly some players showed more than others which will help in terms of fashioning the squad going forward. After such a brilliant start, this is a bit of a reality check. A marker. No harm in that at all. I’m sure our players will respond in the right way and it’s nice to hear that they kept going to the end, even if the match was effectively over.
Disappointing for such an excellent crowd but it doesn’t do to forget just how much progress has been made at the club in the past couple of years.
One day, I hope we can take cup competitions more seriously (even this tinpot Mickey Mouse cup), but that’s not for now. Onwards and upwards. |  | | |

I was disappointed Humphreys and Baggott didn't play as they are the future. Burgess has had enough game time but maybe he didn't want Axel and Baggott as a pairing?
Ball is versatile and is good to have around for that purpose, but when he starts, he never seems to play that well. Humphreys wouldn't have done any worse anyway.
As others have said, it wasn't really a mistake, it was to rest the first team. chaning 11 never really works for most teams. We got a bit lucky against Wolves......Fulham we'ren't so kind. |  | | |

Well I thought, dare I swim against the tide and suggest McKenna is capable of making a mistake. I'll gets tons of negative responses and the down arrow - which throttles debate on here btw - will see more action than Ladapo last night. Well, there are a few considered responses, but most rest on the worn-out, generic statement that I actually refered to in second paragraph.
