Wildcard playoffs.

It’s going to -22 at kick off! Could be in the top 3 coldest NFL games of all time. Quite funny it happens to be against a team from Florida. One sport that plays in everything apart from lightning.

Serious weather this weekend in the Midwest!

I do too, kind of only start watching from them commencing and the timezone for me is perfect...my naivety always feels that Southern or warmer based teams are at a disadvantage when not a top seed dealing with the weather...? or am I just overthinking it ?

Saw a Vikings playoff game about 20 years ago in similar temps, glad we were inside the Metrodome ! can't imagine watching outside in those temps!

Despite the weather, I fancy the Dolphins to win this. KC have been misfiring, especially at home.

They still get 70k inside a stadium for that is pretty mad.

Lake Effect snow possible for Buffalo Pittsburgh as well.

In more normal conditions I'd be inclined to agree with you, but the difference is going to be which QB is able to pass the ball with enough accuracy and velocity in the weather conditions. Tua throws a slow looping ball while Mahomes can fire a tight spiral from any angle.

I'm by no means a Chiefs fan, but I think that will be the difference.

Unfortunately the Miami team has been hit real hard with injuries this season. We've lost our best pass pass rushers fo the year, a number of other key players and a few starters in the OL. Shame really as if the whole team was fit (or even a few less key injuries) then I'd said we had a real chance this year. But then I remember it's Miami and this is just normal for us 😂

At this time if year l usually take an interest in how New England Patriots are doing in the play offs, but another terrible year for them. Why have they slumped so badly?
Is it just because GOAT left and coach was past his best?

The coach was also the GM, which is fine when you have the GOAT at QB for two + decades but he’s drafted poorly for a while now and the game has passed him by somewhat. Great defensive coach, not the best talent evaluator in the modern NFL. They’ll go back to traditional front office set up now with him gone and they’re drafting 3rd in a QB rich draft so watch this space. End of an era in New England this week. Hope this helps.

Joey is quite right: Belichick's record in the draft is beyond woeful. Had Kraft had the balls to take that job off him 5 years ago then he may have had a resurgence.

One additional interesting angle that is getting some traction amongst more thoughtful pundits is that Bellichick emphasised a "team first" culture in which everybody had to "Do your job!" Which emphasised trusting the process and minimised individual brilliance.

An example can be seen in the Patriots approach to gaining extra yards. Most players would try and risk something by, for example, extending an arm out with the ball in it, as that would be the point that the next play would start from, and the player may gain an extra couple of yards on his stats each time. Similarly running with the ball very securely, possibly wrapped in two hands and arms makes the ball harder for the opposition to rip out, but slows the player down, making spectacular breakaways more difficult.

Bill emphasised ball retention and so hugely discouraged players from stretching out, "extending", with the ball, and emphasised security in the running game. Lots of Wide Receivers and Running Backs were churned through if they didn't follow this instruction, or if they got fed up of the impact this approach had to their stats (and hence future value) so wanted to leave to play for more aggressive coaches.

Brady was the epitome of this "Patriots Way". He was never the Quarterback with the best stats in any season. He played a very solid percentage game, and would frequently throw the ball away rather than risk an interception.

The easiest comparison in proper football is between Bill Belichick and Jose Mourinho. Both results obsessives who played percentages at all times, and would rather win than be unpredictable and exciting.

Some of the pundits are suggesting that Belichick is simply culturally too far removed from this generation of players, and there are many less of them willing to downgrade their stats, and personal value, and trust the process for the good of the team.

Others point out that he has created two dynasties, completely rebuilding the team, and that he had nothing left in the tank for a third.

It's ridiculous to suggest he "lucked out" in finding Brady. There was a serendipity to it all, but he had to work with a Quarterback who lacked many of the tools that top level NFL QBs draw on, and day by day build a system that worked within Brady's limitations, but played to his strengths of intelligence and rapid decision making.

Belichick is a defensive genius, and even in this, difficult, last season at the Pats, the defense has been consistently good, and usually allows few points against, even when the team has lost.

Finally, Belichick didn't just uncover/discover/help create the Greatest Quarter Back of All Time, he also had him paired with the Tight End GOAT, Rob Gronkowski, as well. Had Gronk had better luck with injuries the Pats may have won even more Super Bowls. Belichick was innovative in using Gronk's talents, and this reached a peak when he was paired with Aaron Hernandez as dual Tight Ends. (Hernandez never escaped "the streets", in spite of his wealth and success, he was involved in a killing, and his life ended prematurely in prison)

Belichick also differed from many of his rivals in prioritising the Slot Receiver (who bends a run across the back of the Defensive Line to attempt a short gain) over the flying, leaping, all-or-nothing, down-field Wide Receiver. There is only one down-field Wide Receiver from the Brady-Belichick era who would be in with a shout for "All Time Great" status, Randy Moss (and he wouldn't be in most pundits All Time Top 20 WRs) whereas both Wes Welker and Julian Edelman were amongst the best and most effective Slot Receivers ever.

This again is symptomatic of Belichick's safety first approach, but it was his innovation. Coupled with Tight Ends who could also both block and receive, and with a decent Running Back at times, it gave Brady several options without even having to take a risk.

If you can learn all that your brother in law will be very impressed!

Excellent a lot to absorb! Yes change of coach should lead to upturn in form. Presume Pat's are most supported NFL team in UK just because of their name..and of course Brady.

They may be now due to their recent domination .."glory hunters" and first experience with NFL...a bit like Manchester United as the EPL grew globally.
Although I think before it would have been Miami due to so many Brits going to Florida for hols and Dallas as the sterotypical US football name/team.
I actually started following the Packers when they were shyte in the mid 80's and then they became good again a decade or so later and I always felt like I was seen as jumping on bandwagon...I guess Ipswich is a similar siutation :)
