There’s the thought that we might get Downes if he doesn’t get promoted too, although thinking about signings seems a bit pointless at the moment.
Plus, the more I think about it, the more I dislike Russell Martin.

Tough one.
I have a feeling about Saints winning today, when they are fully flowing they are difficult as we saw at PR. Downes is key. And Leeds midfield and defence can be got at. But when Leeds front line clicks they’re frighteningly good.
I can’t decide who will the weaker opponent in the Premiership next year. I know everyone bemoans Russell Martin, but he may suit the Premier League. And they’ve already got some decent players. But I think they’d be weaker than Leeds with their fan base and front line. So I guess Leeds to go up is preference.
Leeds are desperate to go up, they’ll have to sell the team to balance their precarious books. So a lot of pressure on them.
Perhaps also if Saints stay down Downes would be available. But the new West Ham manager may have plans for him, albeit he’s not yet clicked at the London Stadium.

Not good to have such loathing about one person but Russell Martin really is making this a difficult choice as normally it'd be Southampton all day for me.
I know Play Off finals tend to be cagey anyway but I just hope this one is properly entertaining - the POs across the divisions have been very dull/one-sided this year, disappointing. |  |

Incredibly I prefer Farke between the two managers. Martin seems to be everything McKenna isn't (over emotional and salty) despite them having similar profiles as coaches.
If we've any chance of getting Downes (unlikely either way I reckon) we need Soton to stay down.
Leeds are potentially more dangerous as a rival next season but a lot can change so it seems pointless thinking about that yet.
Leeds on their day are better and were better in the league overall, so based on that they deserve it. |  |
