McKenna's contract 07:44 - May 31 with 9308 viewsRadlett_blue

Have any more details been leaked out?
Yes, I'm delighted that he appears to have committed to Town & is now unlikely to jump ship for a middling PL club or even the poisoned chalice called Chelsea. I also don't have a problem with us paying him £6m a year, but does this include a bonus for keeping Town in the PL (& probably bonuses for winning trophies or League position) ? Also, is there a relegation clause? While I don't necessarily think KM should go if we go down, should we be saddled with paying him £6m a year if in the Championship? There's lots of talk about players having "relegation clauses" in their contract.

We have serious people in charge now. That contract will have prepared for every foreseeable situation.

If he’s being paid £5/6m a year you’d like to think that we won’t go down… he’s earning in the top 6/7 managers in that league!

Whisper I hear is that it's even higher than £6m a year. Assume there will be some element of that figure dropping if we're relegated.

That is absolutely mental in context of other managers salaries - probably not far off top 10 in the world? But in the context of our budget/player salaries etc. it's hard to see how we could spend that money better.

I agree.

If we were offered the winner of Manager Of The Year, who had taken a side up two divisions, who was wanted by two medium sized PL clubs and considered by two massive ones, whose players adored him and all said he was the best they’d ever worked with, and whose side played wonderfully exciting and free-flowing football … you’d pay a lot for that.

I’m sorry… more than £6m a year?!

Am I wrong for saying this… But if our player budget doesnt match that of the manager doesn’t it make it a little difficult to achieve what KMs ambitions are?

Which then says to me just how much have they discussed our player budget will be?!

Just for some context here.

Klopp was referenced at between £15m to £18.5m

Here's one article with some estimated salaries. Certainly it seems McKenna has gone above the likes of Thomas Frank.

I wonder if the £6m being referenced, has performance elements within it? so the £6m is predicated on Premier League survival - which would make him a bargain!

The only people who know the actual salary are the directors; CEO and the manager. Why speculate? Apart from being jealous he's earning more than me (a few million more) I don't care, just very happy

I'm not so much interested in KM's contract because I don't think he's in the job for the money. We could have offered him £20m but if the opportunity to progress wasn't there he'd have turned it down (i reckon)

So I'm intrigued as to what other assurances/promises were given to him to persuade him this place is better than say Brighton.

While McKenna is an ambitious manager, I think £6m a year floats most people's boat. Management can be a capricious career.

Given the way football compensation works, I imagine there are managers who aren't in work because they've been fired who are still in or close to that top 10. Poch won't drop out for a while.

This will easily be the best 6m a year we spend. I genyheblu would have paid double that to keep him

Clubs paying 10-15m for back up players - and paying 30-40k a week minimum

In the grand scheme of things - it’s peanuts

I quite like the idea that we must be one of the only clubs where the manager is paid several times what the highest paid player is played. That seems to be the right way round to me.

In a perverse sort of way I think it might attract the right sort of players to come here - promising hungry young players who know that they are going to be developing under an exceptional manager.
