The word 'side' 09:42 - Aug 6 with 3676 viewsReus30

Didn't realise it was such a bad word. People getting upset a four little word need to have a look at themselves and stop acting like another four letter word.

I’m not sure always starting a new thread about how bad and wrong the board is, shows just how upset others are to be fair.

Indeed. Just a week after flouncing off, complaining about sniping etc, and here we are.

It really depends which side you are on.

Are you Ipswich or Norwich?

Of course, immerse yourself among those on the other side and you will find the upset being reversed.

the word sides captures the fact that the social cohesion and integration that the uk has been so good at fostering is currently fraying. the most immediate cause is beered up racists running riot, but it also runs deeper than that. birmingham last night is just another symptom. and the prominence of 'the muslim vote' (TMV) at the election is another. we are heading towards political sectarianism and community segregation if we are not very careful. these are bad warning signs that social cohesion and consensus is being stretched and once the racist thugs are in prison we need serious thinking about why.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I just think it is dangerous because it makes it sound like a match/battle/fight with just cause on both 'sides' as opposed to a bunch of idiots smashing up the place.

Also a bit worrying to try and group or badge some of these sides - is it white people v the rest? Are they angry at muslims specifically? Immigrants? Black people? Was last night's stuff in Birmingham pro-Palestine or an act of perceived defence and defiance?

Whole thing is an absolute mess and I hope it stops quickly, but what won't go away is the growing tension and that can't be good for anyone.

It's nowt to do with the state of the board. The subject of this thread is a 4 letter word and the offensive that it causes. Nothing to do with the previous thread.

No sniping, no flouncing on my end. Just I didn't realise it came to a point that a word that can potentially be referring to some onion rings or buttered greens, or the edge of a shape or the differing points of a debate can now be used as a stick to accuse those using said term, of being racist.

It's like one someone called some wet the other day. I don't mind being wet. It's better being moist then dry.

I watched both 'sides' in Plymouth last night on either side of a metal barrier and a line of Police. They were throwing stones and firing fireworks at each other and sticking their fingers up like being in a playground. Had the barrier and the Police line not been there, I am sure that all of the retards on both sides would have gone home. At one point one side tried to break into the nearby Poundland.....

What is stupid is your incessant need to let everyone know what 'side' you are on and putting everyone down who doesn't share the same opinion.

And yes, there are sides to this, literally two groups of idiots/criminals. Then you have the little sheep, then you have the actual victims and then the bystanders.

I made it abundantly clear my opinion on the matter and this is a thread to highlight the fact that you and others are literally attacking people over the word side. It is frigging mental.

I'm not sure I understand the need for a seperate thread on this.
Couldn't this point have been made in one of the other threads where "sides" have become a discussion point.
It feels a little like a fishing expedition to see who will bite and it seems it's mission accomplished.
For what it's worth, when sides was initially introduced into the debate it felt like a Trumpian comment as if to somehow validate the opinions of the thugs undertaking the mindless violence.
When this first kicked off last week, there was no place for any recognition of their side. They were nothing more than racist thugs goaded into disgraceful actions by their on line (and distant) handlers.
The word side in this context would place some equivalance or validity in their position.
They lost the right to having a side when they took to the streets and threatened and injured innocent people, attacked the police and destryoyed the livlihoods of hard working people.
I'm presuming the other four letter word you are alluding to is C unit.
To label me and countless others on the board who have no truck with the side of the racist scum who have brought terror and fear to our streets is a shame.
I was hoping for better here.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I sometimes wonder how the poundland model holds up following a few years of rampant inflation. Do they now just operate at a huge loss? Or do they just continually downgrade their products to stick to the £1 price?

….its a mixture of bulk buying, low overheads and the bigger chains profiteering.

I expect they only stock stuff that they know they will sell, they don’t sell “perishables”, so have little if any waste.

They inevitably seem to be getting busier round my way.

There are sides. I’m on the side of the asylum seekers cowering in their hotel rooms whilst the far right racists are trying to burn them alive. I’m on the side of the Muslims going to their place of worship whilst having bricks thrown at them. I’m on the side of the Asian coroner shop owners who are having to close down after their business has been vandalised. I’m on the side of the non white taxi drivers who are being intimidated and threatened. I’m on the side of the black guy who is attacked by a group of thugs whist walking through a park.

It's very easy to pick sides in this particular situation.
