Guardian short piece on Everton/Broja on 11:20 - Sep 6 with 5054 views | portmanking | Yep, it didn't make football (or business) sense to do the deal. Interesting that Everton have the easiest opening 10 fixtures of the season. Currently they're bottom during that *and* Broja will likely miss that entire period.
Guardian short piece on Everton/Broja on 11:22 - Sep 6 with 5017 views | Dubtractor | I'm really happy we didn't sign him, given the injury situation. Much better to save the money/squad space for the January window. Of course, it would have been good to sign an alternative, but there didn't seen to be lots of options out there.

Guardian short piece on Everton/Broja on 11:32 - Sep 6 with 4883 views | gainsboroughblue | I was a tiny bit frustrated about that on deadline day. Not landing a striker kind of took the shine off an exceptional window. But the whole Broja thing didn't sit right with me from the get go. Any frustration is offset with complete confidence in KM and MA.

I guess an alternative could have removed our option for January, especially if a PL loan. I said on deadline day, if our options are Delap, Hirst (who appears nearly fit) and Al-Hamadi, that isn't bad given the goals that in theory are sitting in the 3 just behind that lone striker.

Talk of a Moyes return, can they afford to sack Dyche?he's been hamstrung by their ability to do F all in the market and losing their best players, not sure many people could get more out of the current squad. But they'll stay up because they are Everton, they always do, somehow.

If you ask me, Moyes will be just as bad, if not worse, than Dyche. Similar pragmatic style that'll get no more out of that group than Dyche.

agreed, I think if we stay up (and McKenna stays), we will be back in for him. Even if Everton stay up, can't see him enjoying playing Dyche ball. Albeit I do have plenty of time for Dyche as a person.

It would have been more frustrating for me if we’d stampeded into making a huge financial commitment for a player that had a serious ACL injury two years ago, stunk Fulham out last season on loan and will hopefully/maybe be first team ready end of November. However, I understand what you are saying and it would have been nice to find a back up striker, preferably one with promise and years on his side. Regardless I’m sure failure to find the right person was not for the want of trying. The transfer window far exceeded my expectations. It showed our competitors that we are ambitious, pretty courageous in that the easy option would have been to take the Norwich route. We are giving it a good go.
Guardian short piece on Everton/Broja on 13:35 - Sep 6 with 3861 views | ArnieM | As with many teams that eventually get relegated, Everton have been courting the inevitable for what seems like years now. I wonder if we are finally to see them drop to the Championship? Their financial woes only seem set to get worse in my view and that new stadium may end up been a colossal weight around their neck for years. Football is financially a lost cause, now.

On the pitch they performed well last season, with enough points to finish 12th without the deductions for off field issues.

Guardian short piece on Everton/Broja on 14:35 - Sep 6 with 3575 views | MK1 | Think we really wanted someone through the door last window, but wasn't to be. I think this deal was destined to fail, so we move to our next targets for January/next summer. Think it was very smart of Ashton and his team to pull the plug, as we could have been left with a dud player on stupid wages. Non panic buys are always the best.

I think losing Onana and not really replacing hasn't helped. Think last year was bit of a siege mentally there with the deduction looming. I read they only have 12 senior players contracted beyond the end of this season. Hopefully it takes a while for the chap at Palace to offload his steak there and then get the purchase complete, if he manages too. 2 failed attempts for other parties to buy the club so far. Never has a club deserved it more, feel for their fans, no sympathy for their owners

Guardian short piece on Everton/Broja on 16:02 - Sep 6 with 3136 views | Len_Brennan | McKenna really wanted Broja as he fits the profile of what a centre forward should be in one of his team (when fit of course). I can see why he was willing to hang in there, despite the injury/7 weeks out IF he thought that Broja was the perfect fit to be our #9 - nobody was given that covetted shirt - and we would not be able to sign him under previous, & possibly future, circumstances. He was mentioned early on, even before the Fotis Ioannidis reports came out, but a few months ago he was being quoted as being priced at £50m. McKenna likes a player who was educated at the top acadamies. Seems a strange decision by Everton though, who arguably needed a goalscorer more urgently than us; we would be looking to him as a creater as much/more as a finisher. We might have thought that they would have had somebody else coming in, rather than depending on our deal to collapse late on. Getting the loan with an OPTION over an OBLIGATION was a big win for them though.

Yes, actually I'd forgotten that tbh. Not started well again this season though. Just need three teams to be poor, and us to our magic and survival is ours...

I dunno. The image of him in a Town shirt, parading on the half empty terraces at Carrot Road, desperate to get off the sinking ship has a certain je ne sais quoi about it.
