I know a point against any team away from home should be savoured. But I really, really hope we can get three against Southampton.

Even though we have had the toughest fixtures out of the bottom six, it currently looks like we are in a fight amongst those teams and it would be great for confidence if the team can get a win there

Would really knock their confidence too. Would RM survive it?

Our next 2 fixtures are tricky too so would be great to get the first win.

People say there's no big games at this point of the season, which is nonsense.

On the final day we could we be looking back at such games to see where the season was or wasn't saved.

This is huge and leaving St Mary's with 0 points plus Soton above us in the table would not be good.

I agree with your second paragraph but my positive spin, and the way I'm looking at things is:

- We have got something from the two games that weren't against a top four side.
- Could and probably should have got three against Fulham had we had the bench options we had against Brighton.
- We will play Saints before they sack RM and hopefully same with Everton while Dyche is still there.

Not my base case but could easily see us getting 10-12 pts from the next block of fixtures. Encouraged from what I've seen so far, particularly last 30 mins on Saturday.

I actually think Everton Sacking Dyche would be a mistake. My current logic is I want Southampton to keep RM but Everton to get rid of SD because I doubt they will do better.

On the other hand imagine the flouncing on here if the franchise lose, plunging Town into the bottom 3.

Not McKenna Out time just yet - but.

No, I'd imagine he's much more miserable than that. A bit like Eeyore.
I do enjoy his relentless negativity though.

Agree. Everton look like a mess, but they've still scored 4 goals in their last couple of games so they can't be written off yet.

To stay up, we need to win our home games v the [other] bottom 10 sides and draw the away games against them. Fulham were 10th last season so right at the top of that list; you could say that put us 2pts down. Brighton are a top-9 side, so our point there was an unexpected bonus. So, we're a point behind at worst.
Southampton, avoiding defeat is important. They need the win, we don't. A draw would be OK, but I sense we have enough to do better.

I pointed at Soton being a must win, got told there aren’t must wins at this stage of the season.

It's not a must win though, is it? Our season doesn't depend on it, but it is important for a lot of reasons.

Suppose it depends how you look at it.
If on the last game of the season we need to win to stay up, that’s then must win.

I personally see it as we need to get points on the board against those we are in a mini league with, therefore making it a must win, for me. Doesn’t matter if others don’t agree. We won’t go down Saturday if we fail to win, but three points would be massive for a number of reasons.

Must win is the most stupid phrase in football. It only applies if you need a win at the end of the season to mathematically allow you to achieve your objective.

Many teams in the past would have lost so called 'must win' games and reached the end goal, just as many would have won 'must win' games and not achieved what they were after.

If we lose to Southampton and the win vs Villa does that then mean in hindsight it wasn't must win?

It's so stupid.

I think there’s realistically 5-6 teams we can look to get an away win at.
Southampton is one of those. For all the plaudits, promise and comments so far, we really need to get a win soon.

You can't teleport yourself into the future and retrospectively identify matches we didn't win and call them "must win". You can call them "needed to win" at the end of the season though.
